Guitar Hero fans have been left devastated after "Schmooey", considered to be the greatest player in the world, has been exposed as a cheat. The news comes after the player has astounded his viewers with his incredibly fast-finger skills for years, but it appears to have all been a scam.

Guitar Hero will always have a special place in our hearts as a nostalgic game which made us all feel like rock stars. But, boy was it hard. So much so, that some argued that it should be considered as an esport. However, there were some players who appeared to have some serious Guitar Hero skills and put us all to shame. One such player was Schmooey, who blew many a viewer's mind with his incredible playthroughs as he conquered some of the hardest tunes in the game.

Now, in a heart-breaking video, the content creator has admitted that it was all a lie, following some in-depth investigation by his fans.

When Did People Become Suspicious Of Schmooey?

For years, Schmooey was considered one, if not, the greatest Guitar Hero players having flawlessly completed some of the toughest guitar riffs ever. However, some viewers began to smell something fishy during his playthrough of 9 Patterns Of Eternal Pain in December 2021.

Eagle-eyed viewers noticed there were times when Schmooey’s hands weren't hitting the notes on the guitar on screen. There was also a very suspicious moment Windows Media Player overlay appeared during his livestream, strongly suggesting he had pre-recorded the video beforehand.

Schmooey appeared to hold his hands up and admit that a couple of videos had indeed been faked. Yet, he maintained the rest were genuine. However, his suspicious fans weren't convinced. After searching through his extensive collection of videos, which have now been deleted, fans found that nearly all Schmooey's playthroughs were fake. The research was then compiled and explained in a lengthy documentary by YouTuber Karl Jobst.

Schmooey Admits To Cheating In Guitar Hero

Before Jobst posted the YouTube video, Schmooey responded to the accusations that he cheated on Guitar Hero on January 14 in which he completely came clean about everything. He admitted that his playthroughs of the game were "unauthentic" and called himself a "fraud".

For many, the news was particularly disappointing given how he had even claimed bounties that the Guitar Hero community had placed for players who cleared advanced tracks. However, in his apology video, Schmooey claimed that he would pay the money back.

Schmooey certainly isn't the only gaming pro to have been exposed for cheating. After all, there was the Halo pro who was disqualified during competition pending an investigation of cheating and the Warzone player who apparently also got himself caught. However, fans have appeared to forgive Schmooey on this occasion. As one fan claimed: "I'm glad you came forward about things and apologized. If you follow through and pay back all the bounties & show off your actual accomplishments, I'm sure the community will at least let you stick around. I dunno if you'll ever hold the same position again, but all we can do is move forward."
