You mustn't eat the forbidden Fidough. Well, go on, just a small bite. While the history of the Pokemon franchise is littered with some adorable Pocket Monsters that look good enough to eat, The Pokemon Company has just confirmed our biggest fears regarding the fan-favourite Fidough.
Introduced as part of Gen IX, Fidough was one of the early standouts of the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet trailers. You can almost smell how delicious Fidough and its evolved form of Dachsbun would be, and if you've wanted to have a nibble...now you can.
What is the Fidough Pokemon snack?
Posting on Twitter @DogasuBackpack has shown off a new Pokemon-themed snack in Japan that's an edible version of Fidough. Somehow, we're not sure we could bring ourselves to eat that doughy dog...as delicious as it looks/sounds.
In the replies, the OP confirmed this Fidough-themed snack is apple and cream flavour, which is also making our mouths water. Sweet buns are a popular snack in Japan, and with The Pokemon Company giving us a shrink-wrapped Fidough, don't pretend you're not at least intrigued.
According to SiliconEra, the "Pokemon Pan" snacks are a collaboration between The Pokemon Company and Japanese food company Daiichipan. The Pokemon Pan site is an assault on the senses, but shows off other bizarre creations like a Charizard cream Danish and Pawmi steamed cake.
Unfortunately, it seems these Pokemon breads are only available in Japan, so unless you want to pay some ridiculous shipping costs, you'll have to imagine for now.
Pokemon has a strange history with food
Eating your travelling companions might get you locked up in the real world, but in Pokemon, the franchise has a strange history with which 'Mon you can and can't eat. The anime mentioned Farfetch'd making a "delicious meal," while Team Rocket tried to eat Togepi.
Let's also remember Slowpoke tails are a delicacy in the games and anime, showing that not every cute critter ends up going back to Prof Oak's lab when you're done with it. Still, we don't imagine there's much meat on a Duskull.
We previously covered fans arguing over which Pokemon they'd most like to chow down on, and unsurprisingly, choices like Miltank (replacing beef), Vullaby (replacing chicken), and Magikarp (replacing fish) make sense.
The Pokedex entry for Fidough suggests that the yeast in its breath can be used for cooking (gross) rather than actually eating it, but with a real-life Pokebun out, Fidough is rivalling Appletun as the Pokemon we'd be most likely to tuck into.
