Well, yesterday was a big day for Pokemon fans.

A new Pokemon Presents presentation was set to arrive, and though nobody really knew what to expect, some optimistic fans expected the arrival of the franchise's ninth generation of Pokemon, locations, and battles. It was a tall order, but The Pokemon Company, much to fans' surprise, came through.

Generation 9 is on its way with Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, and fans cannot wait to see what's in store for the new age for the franchise, especially after the break-neck shift from the Diamond and Pearl remakes to Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

And as it turns out, this could be the game that fans have waited decades for.

Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Are Completely Open World

Oh my god, it's happening.

The release trailer for Scarlet and Violet sparked a lot of chatter, with fans across the world losing their respective nuts over how gorgeous the new world of Pokemon looks - but in the wake of the almost-open world of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, fans are curious as to how the games will approach the concept of an open world. And it looks like they're going all-in.

"Welcome to the open world of Pokemon," reads the description of the launch trailer. "Embark on an open-world adventure in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, arriving on Nintendo Switch in late 2022."

We can barely contain our excitement.

This is huge, and implies that maybe, Scarlet and Violet will be the ultimate open-world experience for the franchise that we've wanted for so long. Not bad for an announcement made on an inconspicuous Sunday.

Pokemon Scarlet And Violet Reveal New Starters

The new starters for the upcoming Pokemon game have been revealed, and fan artists are already launching into overdrive to reimagine them.

In Scarlet and Violet, players have the choice of capricious Grass cat Sprigatito who looks suspiciously like the furry interpretation of another grassy substance, slow-but-steady Fire croc Fuecoco who looks like he laughs like Seth Rogen, and the earnest Water duck Quaxley, who looks like an ensemble member from the We Go Together scene in Grease.

Though many will find their favourites and least favourites, all three are adorable, and we're incredibly excited to see how they play, much like the rest of the games. The new generation is finally here, and frankly, we couldn't be happier about it if we tried.
