Rockstar Games has a checkered past when it comes to remaking its classic titles, with L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files failing to make much of a mark and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition going down in history as one of the worst remakes ever.

Rockstar seemed quite happy rolling out GTA V upgrades to fill the eternal void until it finally announced GTA 6, and while all efforts are presumably being channelled into the automotive adventure's (hopefully) 2025 release, there's still a baying crowd demanding more remakes.

Grand Theft Auto fans demand a GTA 4 remake

The Rockstar back catalogue is packed with the likes of Bully, Red Dead, and Manhunt, while we know Remedy Entertainment is working on Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes with Rockstar. Still, many of us can't get the idea of a GTA 4 remake out of our heads...and likely never will.

Over on the GTA subreddit, one fan got all nostalgic about the game's shortcomings. It's no secret that movement was more than a little clunky, but with players dreaming up their own GTA 4 remake wishlist, they highlighted some easy wins that would lure us back.

Referring to the sluggish Niko Bellic, one remake supporter cheered, "Movement was awful. A remaster could maybe fix this. They really, really, should remaster this game." Someone else added, "My dream remaster would just be IV with RDR2 graphics. In regards to movement, I am used to it but yeah it would be better if they improved it a lot."

There were sceptics, with someone referring to the GTA Trilogy and grumbling, "Don't I don't wanna see it get butchered at the hands of Rockstar." It's true that some of that blame should be laid at Grove Street Games' door, but still, there was a feeling that Rockstar hardly put its best foot forward with the GTA Trilogy.

Annoyingly, there have been numerous reports that Rockstar was working on a GTA 4 remake up until a point. The fallout of the GTA Trilogy sent shockwaves through publisher Take-Two Interactive, and alongside a remake of 2010's Red Dead Redemption, our return to Liberty City might've been put on ice.

Mythical remakes reared their heads once more when we heard about an RDR remake in 2023, but the rug was once again pulled from beneath us when it was confirmed as a PS4 and Nintendo Switch release rather than a new-gen overhaul in the vein of Capcom's recent Resident Evil revamps.

It's easy to see the money-making potential of a new-gen GTA 4 that does more than just improve Niko's angular face. Sadly, Rockstar seems irreparably burned by the GTA Trilogy. With all eyes on GTA 6 right now, we also don't see GTA 4 getting any love in the near future. Oh well, maybe one day.
