What do Kratos and Homer Simpson both have in common? For a start, they both have quite the temper and refer to their son as boy. Apart from that, one is a yellow cartoon character with four fingers while the other is a fictionalised God of War who can take on Zeus in a fight. We don't imagine Homer would be too good at climbing to the top of Mount Olympus.

The wide worlds of The Simpsons and God of War might not have too much connective tissue, but that hasn't stopped someone modding them together for the ultimate crossover. As we wait for even a sniff of an official The Simpsons: Hit & Run remaster, the God of War Simpsons crossover is a thing of beauty.

What Is The God Of War Simpsons Crossover?

Although it took four years to get Sony Santa Monica's God of War on PC, it was well worth the wait. It didn't take long for modders to let their imagination run wild, and just like we've seen Thomas the Tank Engine in Resident Evil Village or Shrek in Elden Ring, the world is your crossover oyster.

With The Simpsons having been on our screens for nearly 33 years, it's become much more than just your average animated series. We've already seen someone create a nightmarish Springfield spin-off in Resident Evil 7, and now, Midgard is catching yellow fever. YouTuber ToastedShoes is known for their repeatedly mad mods as soon as a game ends up on PC, and their God of War Simpsons crossover is no different.

The mod was originally created by Omega Fantasy, who has a whole Patreon page dedicated to their modding prowess. It's (obviously) Homer Simpson that takes over as Kratos, while Bart is the downtrodden Atreus. We've already seen a mod that lets you play as Atreus, but that's nothing compared to seeing the spiky-haired hoodlum next to his God of War daddy. Also, there's something satisfying about seeing Homer and Ned take out their rage on each other as Kratos and "The Stranger".

What's Next For God Of War?

After being delayed from its proposed 2021 release, God of War Ragnarok is finally due out later this year. Poised to rival the aforementioned Elden Ring as one of 2022's biggest releases, Ragnarok is the final chapter set in Norse mythology. Still, we're not buying that this is the end of the road for the beloved God of War name. Even though it remains to be seen whether Ragnarok will also get the PC treatment, we can't wait to see what imaginative mods could be added next.

There are any number of ways God of War can continue in a post-Ragnarok world, and most of us think an older Atreus will take up the mantle. We've already pitched a game set in Chinese mythology, but we'll have to wait and see whether this it's time to call an end to Kratos' legacy as the God of War. If it is, Homer could always step up for an open-world Simpsons game. Well, it's been 15 years since The Simpsons Game came out.
