If you're no Snorlax, struggle to get 40 winks, and there are no Jigglypuffs on hand to put you to sleep, fear not. It sounds like Pokemon Sleep is finally here. The long-forgotten sleep peripheral is reportedly ready to help you drift off to the land of nod without counting Mareep.

After celebrating the 25th anniversary of those cutesy Pocket Monsters in 2021, we're in a new era of the franchise. The release of Pokemon Red and Blue are a distant memory, as we prepare to explore a whole new world thanks to the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus later this month. However, another game could be on the way in 2022.

What Is Pokemon Sleep?

First announced in 2019 by Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara, Pokemon Sleep was supposed to follow in the vein of Pokemon GoPokemon Quest, and Pokemon Unite - albeit with a more health-conscious twist and less of a gaming element.

Similar to how Pokemon Go put the fun in walking and Pokemon Smile tried (and largely failed) to do the same with hygiene, Pokemon Sleep promised to transform "sleeping into entertainment." The game was supposed to release in 2020, and although it wasn't officially cancelled, it's slipped into the abyss... or has it?

What's The Latest On Pokemon Sleep?

While delving deep into the latest Pokemon Go update, dataminers have uncovered several references to Pokemon Sleep. It's true that Niantic's code can often give an insight into what's on the way, but it's far from confirmation Pokemon Sleep is going to release in the next few weeks.

Way back when, there was talk of Pokemon Sleep using a device (possibly your phone or a periphery) to place under your pillow to monitor your sleep patterns. Although details were thin on the ground, we imagine you'd get some sort of reward for a good night's sleep.

It's important to remember The Pokemon Company registered Pokemon Sleep domains as late as last year, but there's a chance it's because it didn't want the name to lapse. Either way, it could be time to chuck away the Poke Flute and get some well-earned rest.
