FIFA 23 is bringing a lot of change to the franchise. Or at least, it wants us to think that it's bringing a lot of change to the franchise.

In a huge move, female player Sam Kerr serves as one of the two cover stars for the series' newest outing, and boasting a Le Tigre track in the game's reveal trailer certainly feels like EA patting themselves on the back for a bold feminist move that realistically, should have been made many years ago - but now adding cross-play, a new era of playing FIFA with your pals is on the way. Finally, the console wars seem further away in the rearview mirror.

But there's a catch. And it's a catch that has fans absolutely raging.

FIFA Is Letting Fans Down With Cross-Play

Of course, cross-play is on its way to FIFA 23, and it's a move that is bound to be a big deal across the fanbase. For the longest time, fans have been hoping for a way to play with friends on different hardware, and the chance is finally here. But it's not all sunshine and rainbows.

The announcement was received well by fans, but some have noticed something - cross-play isn't going to be a feature of the Pro Clubs mode of the game. One of the biggest reasons that players wanted cross-play in the first place. Oh.

EA has responded, mind - "We want to ensure our product innovation is delivered at quality, and because of the technical intricacies of implementing cross-play, modes that pair players together such as Pro Clubs will not feature cross-play at this time," they have said.

But this isn't good enough for fans.

Players are devastated that the mode won't be available with cross-play, meaning that they're not going to be able to team up with their pals. The SaveProClubs hashtag has started to gain traction, and is proving to be quite the movement already.

It's a shame to see the mode go to pot like this even before the game has launched. FIFA 23 might be off to a strong start, but who knows - maybe this is a sign of disappointments to come.
