Change is a-coming for the biggest sporting video game in the world. There's a lot on the slate for EA regarding the upcoming overhaul of the FIFA gaming franchise, which will soon be known as EA Sports FC.

The standard tweaks are expected to come to the next entry, but the massive name change is presumed to be the biggest catalyst - with the game's licenses being left in jeopardy without the support of FIFA. Away from names, it looks like the gameplay is about to get a big overhaul.

Female players could be coming to Ultimate Team

According to FIFA leaker FUTSheriff, the upcoming EA Sports FC will feature female players in its widely adored Ultimate Team mode. Importantly, this will be the first time in the franchise's history, stretching all the way back to FIFA International Soccer in 1993.

The leaker suggests that the new female players will be able to compete alongside a team's male players, allowing fans to build their dream teams without worrying about player gender.

This is bound to ruffle the feathers in the midst of arguments about gender in sports, but we're here for the change. After all, the video game is about the escapist fantasy of football, and to divulge from industry rules will bring a refreshing change to the series and beloved mode.

What's new with EA Sports FC?

As fans have been concerned that cutting the chord with FIFA would lead to lost licenses, EA Sports FC has thankfully revealed a new video that shows off each of the leagues that will appear in the game. Even though there are a few missing, the roster isn't as bare as some fans expected it to be.

Boasting partnerships with the Premier League, Women's Super League, La Liga, and more, we're not looking back. Fans were right to be worried about such huge changes to the FIFA we know and love, but it sounds like the future is bright for EA Sports FC and a more inclusive franchise.
