Before we move forward, it seems we have to look backwards first. Rockstar Games has the seemingly impossible task of having to top the record-breaking GTA V, but as the future of the Grand Theft Auto franchise comes into view, it looks like we've got the bones there to do it.

With it being over a decade since GTA V raced into our lives, it's fair to say graphical capabilities have come a long way. The first look at the GTA 6 has shown off a suitably new-gen title that's also giving us a blast from the past as we return to Vice City. While it's clear a lot has changed, a certain fan-favourite could be hiding in plain sight.

GTA 6 is hiding a Tommy Vercetti Easter egg

As the protagonist of GTA: Vice City, Tommy Vercetti is arguably one of the most iconic GTA characters in arguably the best game. Although the events of Vice City take place in 1986 and GTA 6 looks like it'll shift to the present day, there's a chance a much older Tommy is still walking these streets - albeit with a zimmer frame.

Over on Reddit, user u/Crafty-Astronomer905 pointed to what looks like Tommy's mansion appearing in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it frame. It's a pretty blurry shot, with sceptics thinking it could be any ol' mansion. Still, it would be typical of the GTA series to hark back to the glory days of Vice City.

Assuming it is Tommy's mansion, one fan cheered, "Probably my first location I visit once you can free roam." Another added, "They better let us buy that house. Lol," and a third concluded, "The mansion is most probably going to be an ordinary mansion just like CJ's house in GTA V."

GTA 6 could have some major Tommy Vercetti ties

We've only been given a glimpse of GTA 6 in the first trailer, with the story largely focusing on the playable character. Although leaks have spoiled that her male counterpart is Jason, Rockstar hasn't even confirmed it yet. With the game coming out at some point in 2025, there are sure to be a lot more reveals on the way.

It might be a little cliché, but if we're going back to Vice City, who's to say Jason or Lucia won't be related to Tommy? If not, they could at least be part of his criminal empire. There's a slight problem with this, considering the legendary Ray Liotta, who voiced Tommy, has sadly passed away.

Even if Tommy doesn't appear while shuffling around his mansion, we expect there will be plenty of nods to him. The series has largely abandoned Tommy, although he is mentioned in both San Andreas and Kent Paul's website in 2002. With GTA 6 being the unofficial Vice City sequel we always wanted, it's about time we found out what happened next to Tommy.
