DICE have had its work cut out for it since last year. The launch of Battlefield 2042 was supposed to be the game that was set to change the way that shooters were played forever. Instead, it was a complete disaster - incomplete, buggy, and deeply unfun to actually play.

Fans turned against Battlefield 2042 quickly, and promptly shifted to other franchise titles instead. Ever since, player numbers for 2042 have been among the worst that EA has seen in a long time, and yet, the teams behind it are doing all they can to lure players back. And they're willing to work on the game to such a degree that other IPs simply won't get a look-in.

How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man? Despite the unceasing evidence that Battlefield 2042 is a lost cause, DICE has revealed that it doesn't have the time to work on anything that isn't a Battlefield project right now.

In one of her first interviews after joining the company, DICE's new General Manager, Rebecka Coutaz, was asked by GamesIndustry.biz what's going on. Coutaz confirmed whether other games in the same creative ballpark as Mirror's Edge are off the table for the company - and she was quick to agree.

"Totally," she said. "We are only focussing on Battlefield 2042. There is no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. In three years, we want to be the first-person shooter powerhouse that DICE deserves to be, and that is what we're going for."

Can DICE Bring Battlefield 2042 Back From The Brink?

Truth be told, it really isn't looking good for Battlefield 2042, but we've seen more intense failures come back from the brink so far. Think of No Man's Sky, which was a game that managed to claw back its fans with constant, huge updates and giving back to its community from its sincere development teams.

Battlefield 2042 being made free-to-play would go a long way for the game - but it seems that this option is still being considered. Battlefield 2042 is going to have to seriously fight for its return to the spotlight - and it looks like the troops are rallied at DICE. Godspeed to them, because they're going to need all the good luck they can get. Sadly, Battlefield comes at the cost of Mirror's Edge, a new Star Wars Battlefront, and DICE's other big hitters.
