Game Pass has a big year ahead of it... if rumours are anything to go by. With Xbox's ongoing attempt to purchase Activision Blizzard, it's thought that a huge sum of games will not only be coming to the service from the company's backlog, but also upcoming games set to drop on day one.

It'd be a huge boost for the subscription service, and with more Ubisoft titles reportedly on the way thanks to Ubisoft+, it's easy to see why subscribers are so happy with it. But now, another massive game could be dropping on Game Pass - but frankly, it could be an effort to save the game, rather than Battlefield 2042 bringing in more subscribers.

XGP has spotted that, similarly to FIFA 22 last week, Battlefield 2042's listing on the Xbox store has been updated to indicate that the game is to be available on Game Pass to Ultimate subscribers.

Of course, it isn't free on the service yet and is still only available through purchase, but it's thought that this is the system jumping ahead of the gun on the game inevitably joining the service.

The change has gained more validity recently, as this happened to FIFA 22 as well - that's just been announced as one of this month's PlayStation Plus games. If EA is happy to let its sporting superstar go to a subscription service, it looks increasingly likely that Battlefield 2042 is next.

Will Game Pass Save Battlefield 2042?

Battlefield 2042 coming to Game Pass is undoubtedly a way to try and recoup player numbers for the game that's falling fast - and chances are, it's unlikely to keep up a strong player base once it becomes free to subscribers.

Game Pass users will often dip in and out of games to give them a chance to see what they're like. If gamers aren't a fan, they'll just move onto the next - but once they see how buggy and unbalanced Battlefield 2042 is, we're not convinced they're going to stick around.

Battlefield 2042 is a mess, and with a leaked currency system on the way too, it's only going to get worse. It's sad to say, but it's likely that Battlefield 2042 is done for good, and being free to a huge sum of Xbox fans isn't going to change that. Sorry, EA. It was only a matter of time.
