10 Games Like Fortnite
Whether it's battle royale, building, or third-person shooting, these are our picks for 10 games like Fortnite.
Looking to test the waters in other games like Fortnite? For many, Fortnite served as an introduction to battle royales, but it's far from the only title like it. The below list consists of ten games like Fortnite.
Games Like Fortnite
Apex Legends
Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS
Entering its 13th season, there is no better time to jump into Apex Legends. The free-to-play battle royale hero shooter is a live service game, just like Fortnite, receiving constant updates and attention. With a roster of over 20 legends, there is a character for everyone. Dream of moving at high speeds and aggressively pushing the opposition? Give Apex Legends Octane a go. Want to set up fortified walls in a fashion similar to Fortnite? Try Apex Legends Rampart or Apex Legends Newcastle.
Diving deeper into the similarities between Fortnite and Apex, the characters in Apex Legends all have closets full of beautiful cosmetic Outfits and other accessories. Furthermore, Apex Legends heirlooms are special cosmetic-only melee weapons that serve as true status symbols due to their scarcity.
Is competitive play more your jam? While Apex does not put forward weekly in-game tournaments like Fortnite, Apex does feature a flourishing Ranked Mode.
All-in-all, Apex Legends offer a diverse cast of characters, consistent updates, top-of-the-line cosmetics, and a full-fledged Ranked Mode that makes it a worthy alternative to Fortnite.
Rogue Company
Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS
While not a battle royale at its heart, Rogue Company, a tactical third-person hero shooter from Hi-Rez Studios, shares many similarities with Fortnite.
Rogue Company is a third-person shooter. Further, the gunplay feels remarkably similar to Fortnite, due to mechanics like bloom. You'll feel right at home when you jump into a game of Rogue Company.
In Rogue Company, you play as Rogues. Rogues are hero characters with special abilities that can sway the tide of battle. There are over 20 Rogues to choose from and that number grows each season. Rogue Company also puts out a new Battle Pass every season, just like Fortnite.
Rogue Company recently introduced a new 4v4 game mode titled Battle Zone. Each round you'll drop from the ship and need to open crates to loot weapons and armour. To force the action, the Safe Zone will shrink smaller with each passing minute. The last team standing at the end wins that particular round and the first team to four rounds wins the match. Sounds a lot like a miniature battle royale, right?
Give Rogue Company a chance if you want a break from the traditional battle royale formula but still desire Fortnite-like gameplay.
Realm Royale
Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
Another Hi-Rez Studios title, Realm Royale is Hi-Rez's battle royale. At a glance, Realm Royale looks and feels closer to Fortnite than any other game on this list. Realm Royale plays in a third-person point of view and shares a style and vibe much like Fortnite.
In Realm Royale, players choose from four classes: Warrior, Mage, Hunter, and Assassin. Each class specialises in different weapons and abilities, some of which might remind you of classic Fortnite items like Shockwave Grenades. Realm Royale also comes with its fair share of goofy, cartoonish gameplay elements, like the fact that players transform into chickens when down but not out.
Available on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch with full crossplay, Realm Royale is available to try for free on every platform aside from mobile.
PUBG
Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia, Android, iOS
One of the OG battle royale titles, PUBG set the stage for games like Fortnite. PUBG and Fortnite's gameplay follows the same formula: drop in, loot up, and fight to be the last player standing.
PUBG is playable in either first-person or third-person, so Fortnite die-hards need not worry. Moreover, PUBG offers Solo, Duos, Trios, and Squads playlists.
There is one stark contrast between PUBG and Fortnite though: the actual gameplay and graphics. Fortnite is cartoonish and wacky while PUBG is realistic and serious. PUBG's arsenal of weapons imitates real-world military firearms, meanwhile, Fortnite regularly introduces items like the Rift-To-Go and Boogie Bombs. Going further, PUBG's points of interest (POIs) are modelled after real-life locations — that's certainly not the case with Fortnite.
In PUBG's defence, the game seems to have chilled out a bit lately in terms of how serious it takes itself. Recent PUBG Battle Passes include over-the-top Skins that you would have never expected in PUBG's early days. Also, PUBG new Arcade Modes like Fantasy Battle Royale are a lot closer in feel to Fortnite than the standard game modes.
PUBG and Fortnite share the same foundation, so consider giving it a go if you're a fan of the battle royale genre.
Call of Duty: Warzone
Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Warzone is Call of Duty's take on a battle royale. Call of Duty titles typically start out at a price point of £49.99, but Warzone is free-to-play. Warzone is super accessible too, like Fortnite. You can play Warzone on almost any platform and it's got full crossplay, so playing with friends on different systems is as easy as it is in Fortnite.
Like Fortnite, Warzone is constantly collaborating with other properties to create sick Skins and limited-time game modes. Warzone features crossover Outfits from Attack on Titan, Saw, Scream, Donnie Darko, and more. Just recently, Warzone experienced the Warzone MonsterVerse event where King Kong and Godzilla walked the island and wreaked havoc.
Finally, Warzone has some of the most original mechanics we've seen in a battle royale, from the Buy Stations, to the Gulag, to the Custom Loadouts. If you're burnt out on Fortnite, Warzone may be the breath of fresh air you need.
Fall Guys
Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS
The only non-shooter on this list, Fall Guys takes the battle royale formula and turns it into a platformer.
A match of Fall Guys begins with 60 players. Each round, players must jump, dive, climb, and grab their way through various minigames to qualify. If you're too slow or fall into the slime, you're eliminated. The match ends with a Final round where only one bean will make it out victorious and claim the Crown.
Like Fortnite, Fall Guys is published by Epic Games and shares the same lighthearted, family-friendly style. In Fall Guys, you can dress up your bean in all sorts of cosmetics available through the Fame Pass. Fall Guys also features numerous collaborations with other properties like Sonic the Hedgehog, Cuphead, Among Us, and even Fortnite itself.
While the casual platformer battle royale will set you back £15.99 at the moment, Fall Guys will go free-to-play on the Epic Games Store beginning June 21, 2022. Accompanying this special occasion, Fall Guys will become available on Xbox and Nintendo Switch, finally — with full cross-platform play support.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt
Platform(s): PC, PS5
Bloodhunt is an excellent Fortnite alternative. It's darker and grittier than Fortnite, but there's no denying the similarities.
Bloodhunt is a free-to-play battle royale where you play as vampires with supernatural powers. The pace of play in Bloodhunt is vigorous, you'll need lightning-fast reflexes to survive. Despite the fantasy theme, Bloodhunt's weapon pool consists of many of the same guns that you'd find in Fortnite, such as a Pump Shotgun, Tommy Gun, LMG, and Burst Rifle.
Bloodhunt follows a third-person POV, so Fortnite players will feel right at home. You can't build like in Fortnite, but you can climb walls and leap across rooftops to dodge gunfire and escape danger in a pinch.
Bloodhunt is relatively new, meaning you can still get in early as an OG and earn all of the Bloodhunt Battle Pass rewards. Pick your favourite of the Bloodhunt archetypes, jump into the action, and see if Bloodhunt can live up to the Fortnite comparisons.
Super People
Platform(s): PC
On the face of it, Super People might look like just another PUBG clone. However, under the hood, Super People introduces some twists that separate it from traditional militaristic battle royale shooters.
In Super People, you play as a super-soldier complete with their own unique abilities and skills. As a match progresses, your character gets stronger as you work your way up various skill paths. Super People also features an intricate crafting system where you collect up resources to upgrade guns, armour, and the like.
Super People presents stunning, realistic graphics and the gameplay is extremely smooth. If you want a game that's like Fortnite with plenty of originality, Super People is worth checking out.
Spellbreak
Platform(s): PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch
Spellbreak is a third-person shooter like Fortnite, but instead of guns, players use magical spells to engage enemies. Spellbreak's primary game mode is battle royale, but it also features an objective-based 5v5 game mode.
The different classes, spells, and abilities work to help Spellbreak stand out from the crowd. In Spellbreak, strategy and creativity flourish, as you can combine different elements for devastating effects. Additionally, Spellbreak flaunts an art style strikingly similar to Fortnite. Think of Spellbreak as Fortnite with magic.
Available for free on all platforms — including mobile with NVIDIA GeForce NOW — why not give Spellbreak a try?
Super Animal Royale
Platform(s): PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Stadia
Super Animal Royale deviates from the trends with its top-down 2D style. In Super Animal Royale, you take control of cute animals with instincts for murder. Equip your puppy with an assault rifle and hunt down other furry critters until you're the last animal standing.
Super Animal Royale takes place in an abandoned safari park with a diverse range of biomes and points of interest. Like Fortnite, Super Animal Royale is inhabited by NPCs that offer quests and hidden lore.
If you're one for cosmetics, Super Animal Royale allows you to collect hundreds of different animal breeds and customise them with assortments of goofy attire. With seasonal events, a rotating shop, and an Animal Pass, there's always a reason to come back to Super Animal Royale.
Super Animal Royale is an unorthodox addition to the battle royale genre — just like Fortnite once was.
Put Fortnite on the shelf for a bit and give one of these games like Fortnite an honest try.
