Who is Link's guide, Rauru, in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom lore?
As your adventure begins in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you will soon encounter a character named Rauru, who acts as an early guide. But who is Rauru exactly?
Here, we’ll be breaking down who Rauru is in the game, his connection to the Zonai and why he is important.

Who is Rauru?

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Rauru is one of the first characters you encounter after waking up on the Great Sky Island and acts as Link’s guide. He appears to you as an apparition similar to King Rhoam in Breath of the Wild (which is a massive hint as to his identity).
In the opening minutes of the game, after encountering the mysterious mummy beneath Hyrule Castle, Link will possess a new arm that seemed to be fighting the gloom that was arising from the depths.
This arm belonged to Rauru, and it will come in handy (no pun intended) for the journey ahead. With the abilities it grants you, you can only imagine just how powerful was before he passed.

Who are the Zonai?
Before learning about Rauru, you’re going to want to know about the Zonai. Early in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you will hear mentions of the Zonai. But who are they exactly?
The Zonai are a race of ancients who were akin to gods in the lore of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Remnants of their society, such as Breath of the Wild’s Guardians and Divine Beasts, set in motion the events of the previous game.
As you advance through your quest, their technologies will be paramount in defeating your foes. Devices such as the Zonai Dispensers will provide essential resources to help you along the way.

Appearing you as a ghostly goat-looking man, in one of the early visions you find along your journey, you will discover that not only is Rauru a member of the Zonai race, but he is also the first King and Founder of Hyrule.
