If you're having trouble keeping up with the endless passing of time, then you may be wondering 'when did MW2 come out?'. The Call of Duty series has been going for a long while - almost 20 years, in fact. As lots of players have been around since the very beginning, it's getting harder and harder to remember when each individual game came out. What makes things more tricky is that there are now two Modern Warfare 2 games to think about. Keep reading to find the answer to 'when did MW2 come out?'.

When Did MW2 Come Out?

If you're thinking about the first Modern Warfare 2 title, then the date you're looking for is November 10th 2009. Developed by Infinity Ward, this title was the anticipated sequel to 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It followed the returning characters of Captain Price, Ghost, Soap, and Gaz as they fight against invading Russian forces.

Modern Warfare 2 actually saw a Campaign Remaster release a few years ago. That title was released on March 31st 2020, just over 10 years after the original title. While this is an excellent way to revisit the classic story, it's a fairly bare-bones title. There's no multiplayer to speak of, so only pick this one up if you're interested in playing through the story again.

Lastly, there's the most recent installation of Modern Warfare 2 which was released on October 28th 2022. This is another modern reimagining of the Modern Warfare series that follows on from the Modern Warfare reboot from 2019. If you're looking for a Modern Warfare 2 game to pick up, then this is definitely the one to go for. It features both a fully-fledged campaign mode alongside a stellar multiplayer offering. It also ties in directly with Warzone 2.0, which is free to play.
