How To Write Songs In The Sims 4

Writing songs in The Sims 4 requires you to achieve level eight of the musical instrument you are playing. To navigate how to write songs in The Sims 4, and how to unlock the ability with cheats, read on.

As stated above, to unlock the ability to write songs for your chosen instrument, you must reach level eight of that skill level first. There is a total of four instruments in the game with skill levels, these are guitar, piano, violin, and the organ.

After achieving level eight, simply left-click on your instrument and select the option to 'Write Song…', then choose which genre of music you'd like to write a song for.

If your sim is interrupted before they finish writing the song, or you cancel the interaction to do something else, the sheet music for the unfinished song will appear in your sim's inventory. To resume the song simply click on the sheet music and choose the option.

Once written, you can name your song and your sim will have the option to perform it by clicking through the options on the instrument.

How To License Songs In The Sims 4

At level nine of the musical instrument skill, you'll be able to send written songs off in the mail for licensing and make royalties on them weekly. To do this, simply left-click on the mailbox and the option to license your song will appear.

This can be a great source of revenue if playing a 'rags-to-riches' game where you need to earn cash quickly. The money earned will roll over onto the following weeks at a slightly decreased rate, so it will be a continuing source of revenue and can be stacked with other licensed songs.

Sims 4 Musical Instrument Skill Cheat

You can max out your musical instrument skill with cheats if you would prefer to unlock the ability to write songs faster.

To input a cheat press CTRL + Shift + C if on a PC or press in all four triggers if playing on a console to bring up the cheat box. Then type 'testingcheats true' to enable cheats in your game.

Next type one of the following cheats into the cheat box to max out that skill level, (you can replace the number 10 with any number between 1-10 to set your sim's skill level at that number).
