Try out the latest Call of Duty title with the MW2 free weekend event
Find out how to play the Modern Warfare 2 free weekend with this guide, going over the platforms you can play it on, and how long it is lasting for in the game.
Free weekends are a staple of Call of Duty multiplayer, giving potential buyers a trial period and experienced players a potential stomping ground. So, to find out how to play the MW2 free weekend, make sure to carry on reading down below.
How to play the free weekend
In order to play the free weekend, you need to find and download the 'Multiplayer Free Access' version of the game on your respective storefront. It will either be found within the core Modern Warfare 2 game page, or as a separate title, named 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II - Multiplayer Free Access'.
The free weekend is available on every platform that you can play MW2 on currently, which includes:
- PlayStation 5
- PlayStation 4
- Xbox Series X | S
- Xbox One
- PC (Steam/Battle.net)
Downloading this will only give you access to the multiplayer mode, so if it is the campaign or Special Ops that you're after then unfortunately you'll have to buy the full game. If you want to play Warzone or MW2 DMZ however, they are fully free and you can jump straight in whenever.
When is the MW2 free weekend?
The current MW2 free weekend runs from December 15 to December 19, giving you four days to try out the game and see if you like it. There will most definitely be additional free weekends in the future if you happen to miss this one or still feel inconclusive, so keep your eyes peeled for more details soon.
Furthermore, all progress earned within the free weekend carries over if you do decide to buy the game, so thankfully you won't have to worry about wasting time or losing any precious unlocks.
