If you’re a fan of the original movie, you’ll most likely be familiar with Egon’s iconic line: “I collect spores, molds, and fungus”. This quote has been taken quite literally in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed as players will be following in Egon’s footsteps throughout their time in the game. 

As well as capturing ghosts, you will also be tracking down a variety of spores, mold, and fungi during your hunts. Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed doesn’t do the best job of introducing you to this mechanic and the benefits of collecting as many as possible, but don’t worry, we’ve outlined everything you need to know about building your spurs, mold, and fungus collection in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

If you’ve been exploring the Firehouse in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, you may have come across a lab on the top floor. It’s here you’ll most likely have seen a set of shelves to interact with to view the spores, mold, and fungus available in the game. While the tutorial does an excellent job of introducing you to the core mechanics, elements such as this are left for you to discover yourself.

These objects are found within levels, and once collected, reward you with experience and build up your collection. The rewards aren’t substantial, offering a few bits of XP here and there, but the more you collect, you’ll reach certain milestones. This appears to happen for every 25% of the collection you complete.

Every 25% will reward you with a huge chunk of experience, hitting highs of 50,00 XP. If you reach 100%, players will also unlock a unique cap for their hard-earned efforts, which they can customise their character with and show off in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

Unfortunately, there’s no single definitive answer to that question, however, players shouldn’t struggle to be swimming in spores, mold, and fungus. While the game doesn’t directly explain where to find them and their purpose, you’ll most likely come across your first piece during your first ghost hunt.

The locations of spores, mold, and fungus appear to be entirely random, with them all scattered across the map. We have noticed more seem to appear around the areas where a ghost has primarily been haunting, but this could be completely coincidental. Your best course of action is to play Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed normally, as you will find a wide range fairly easy through casual play.
