After the addition of the Ex-Caliber Rifle, Shockwave Hammer, and a myriad of other things with Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1, the latest hotfix has introduced the Guardian Shield.

Keep reading our guide to learn more about it and details on how to get Guardian Shield in the game.

How to get the Guardian Shield

You can get the Guardian Shield from the Oathbound Chests that you can find at Medieval named locations such as The Citadel, Anvil Square, Shattered Slabs, and other such locations.

Regular chests and ground loot do not have the Guardian Shield in their loot pool. So, if you want to try it out, you must open a few Oathbound Chests.

The drop depends on RNG, so even if you open an Oathbound Chest, it is not guaranteed that you will get a Guardian Shield.

How to use the Guardian Shield

The Guardian Shield is a new protective item in Fortnite that allows players to deploy a shield at a chosen location to protect them from incoming fire.

Players can even use it as a mobile shield to move around while blocking incoming damage. How it works is you can throw the Guadian Shield, like any other throwable item, to deploy it at a particular location. Or, you can use it without aiming to deploy a barrier right in front of you.

  • Using Guardian Shield as a stationary barrier: You can press the Right Mouse button to aim the Guardian Shield and then press the LMB to throw it at the location. On PlayStation, you can use the L2 button to aim the Guardian Shield and the R2 button to throw and use it as a stationary barrier.
  • Using Guardian Shield as a mobile barrier: Press and hold the LMB on PC or the R2 button on PlayStation or RT on Xbox to use the Guardian Shield as a mobile cover.

The barrier raised by the Guardian Shield breaks after taking a certain amount of damage. When you use it as a mobile cover, you can see a meter in the quick menu; it indicates when the shield will run out.
