In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, there are plenty of ways to get stronger, from using the best Materia to upgrading your weapons, but Weapon Proficiency allows you to unlock brand new abilities that be used on any weapon – so we’re here to explain everything you need to know about the system.

Your abilities are integral to fending off some of the most fearsome bosses and enemies in the game, so learning about how to master them using Weapon Proficiency is bound to get you ahead.

What is Weapon Proficiency in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Weapon Proficiency is the stat that allows you to master your selected weapon’s unique ability. For example, the Sleek Sabre in the image below has the Firebolt Blade ability.

By increasing your weapon proficiency, you will master that ability so that it can be used on any of your weapons - essentially adding that ability to your move pool so it can be used when you reach the ATB requirements.

How to increase Weapon Proficiency

To increase your Weapon Proficiency in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you simply need to just use the weapon’s unique ability frequently in battle. Once you’ve used it enough times, you’ll max out the Weapon Proficiency and the ability can be used on any weapon.

So, when you find or buy a new weapon, it’s always worth equipping quickly and using it as soon as possible to learn its ability, even if you don’t intend to use it for the rest of the game.

That’s all you need to start increasing your Weapon Proficiency in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth so that you can use new abilities on any of the weapons you choose to wield.
