If you've jumped into the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC, it won't be long until you encounter the Chimera boss - but if you're anything like us, beating it may challenge you more than you thought.

This hulking Militech machine is a walking tank with plenty of firepower, and you'll want the best perks to defeat the Chimera - or risk getting turned into mulch by its weapons.

Here's how to beat the Chimera in Cyberpunk 2077, including which skills to pick to come out on top in this early-game encounter.

Spoiler Alert There are spoilers here for the first few hours of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. You've been warned!

Where is the Chimera in Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC?

Phantom Liberty starts off V's trip to Dogtown with a bang, it'd be fair to say. Called by a mysterious Netrunner, Songbird, our hero is tasked with reaching the President of the United States' plane as it crashes down.

After securing President Myers, she and V fight through scores of Kurt Hansen's troops and robots, eventually taking refuge in an old exhibition center.

It's here that the Chimera is unleashed on Hansen's forces, before Songbird loses control and the mech begins chasing V and President Myers, leading to a final showdown in the underbelly of Dogtown.

It's certainly a pulse-pounding encounter, but the Chimera fight can be trivialized with the right perks and skills.

Once combat with the Chimera begins, you'll need to keep moving. The robot has two main weapons it uses, with a machine gun capable of ripping V apart if they don't move quickly enough, or a laser that can do similarly.

The former can also tear through pillars in the arena, making taking cover a difficult prospect. Every now and again, it'll let out a volley of missiles, but staying mobile will keep damage to a minimum.

The trick is hitting the Chimera's various weak points, with a handy perk in the new Relic tree called Vulnerability Analytics a perfect choice.

This guarantees a Crit shot when hitting the marked area, and adds 25% Armor Penetration.

In our experience, the best choice is to focus on survivability, meaning you'll want to dig into the following perks:

Body:

  • Painkiller: Allowing for health regen during combat.
  • Speed Junkie: Enables faster health regen while sprinting (perfect considering how rapidly you'll be running).
  • Comeback Kid: Causes +1% health regen rate for each per cent of missing health, keeping you topped up.

Reflexes:

  • Slippery: This makes V harder to hit while moving.
  • Power Slide: Allows for a longer slide, particularly handy when the laser gets close.

Cool:

  • Feline Footwork: This perk mitigates damage, which may help you stay alive just a little longer.

Once you've defeated the Chimera, it'll drop to the ground to allow a killing blow. Be sure to pick up the Chimera core afterwards, an optional objective but one that could have big rewards further down the line.
