Over recent years, the addition of crossplay in multiplayer games has been an incredible feature. It’s bridged the gap between players and allows everyone on any platform to jump online with their friends. It’s prevented groups from being locked out from one another when someone is playing on Xbox and another is playing through their PlayStation.

With the release of Chivalry 2 into Xbox Game Pass, the inclusion of crossplay is one that is at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Unfortunately, while the game does have crossplay in some capacity, it’s not as simple as you may hope. Here’s everything you need to know about crossplay in Chivalry 2.

Is Chivalry 2 Crossplay?

The short answer is yes, but as mentioned before, it’s not as simple as other games. Whilst developer Torn Banner has implemented crossplay to reduce match wait times, it’s currently not possible to party up with your friends on other platforms and jump online.

However, Chivalry 2 does support cross-generation multiplayer across the Xbox ecosystem, but currently not PlayStation. Torn Banner has acknowledged that players are desperately seeking a way to party up and utilize crossplay and has promised an implementation in the future, along with cross-generation parties on PlayStation.

A roadmap is available to view as part of the official Chivalry 2 Trello Board, and at the time of writing, both cross-platform parties and cross-generation support on PlayStation have no confirmed dates.

While this is disheartening, fear not, as there is still a workaround for anyone who wants to take advantage of crossplay on Chivalry 2.

One of the post-launch updates for Chivalry 2 introduced the ability to use the server browser on consoles. This means you can coordinate with the players you want to party up with to find a match for you all to join.

It’s relatively simple to use and allows you to search the game mode you want, region, and see how many places are available on the server. It’s not the most ideal way of partying up, but it’s definitely a suitable workaround until a native implementation has been made.

If you’re still struggling to get to grips with how to use the server browser, he’s a step-by-step guide on how to do so:

  • Load up Chivalry 2.
  • Click Play.
  • Select Standalone Servers.
  • On the browser screen select the server you wish to join and communicate the name and map to your friends.
  • You can also use the filters to hide full servers and any that are locked with a password.
  • Additionally, by selecting Advanced Filters, you can manually search for a server that you’re looking for.

As we’ve said, it’s not the most ideal way of matching up with friends on platforms, but once you’re in a server, you can easily swap teams and will continue to be in the same game at the end of each match.
