It's pretty brutal out there in Hyrule, and to be honest, it's hard enough getting down from the training area in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's Great Sky Island, let alone trying to beat Ganondorf in a gloom-ravaged floating castle.
The latest entry in the Zelda lineage is bigger than Lord Jabu Jabu, meaning you can be tens of hours in and still find new secrets. Seeing the "Game Over" screen flash up for the millionth time as a Stone Talus wallops you out of nowhere is frustrating, but did you know there's a sneaky way to survive any attack?
Link can survive any attack in Tears of the Kingdom
“Why does everything still one-shot me?”

Paragliding down over Hyrule can be a daunting task in Tears of the Kingdom, as Nintendo somehow managed to make a game that makes 2017's Breath of the Wild look like its starting area. There's a lot to unpack as you tick off shrines and expand your map - slowly seeing Link's number of hearts increase.
Beating shrines and collecting Lights of Blessing is key to beefing up, but another important aspect is to stay well-fed. It turns out that a full Link is a happy Link. It's also one that can survive ANY attack. This isn't one of the many duplication glitches, but a handy hint that Purah and Co. (conveniently) forget to tell you about.
When one Reddit user shared a joke meme about why we're still getting one-shotted and whether you should try and max out your hearts or stamina, user u/TheBestWorst3 claimed that if Link is in full health, even a seemingly lethal shot will take you down to 1/4 heart.
Saying you should prioritise stamina, they wrote, "When you get hit you go down to a quarter of a heart if you're full on health. In a way, it's detrimental to upgrade hearts as it becomes harder to get to max health."
This sort of pity system was also present in Breath of the Wild, and while it's dangerous to step out into the wild plains of Hyrule with only a handful of hearts, it's ultimately easier to keep Link fully fed and able to avoid being bludgeoned to death by a one-shot from a Lynel.
Hearts or stamina in Tears of the Kingdom?
The age-old question of hearts or stamina rears its head again in Tears of the Kingdom, with both having advantages and drawbacks. Especially down in the Depths, hearts are a literal lifesaver. If hit by Gloom (which is pretty likely), you won't be able to heal through normal food and dishes, meaning the more hearts, the merrier.
Then again, stamina is handy when soaring above the map. There are various islands and rocks around, but a chunky stamina wheel can stop you from plunging to your death or drowning just before you reach the shore. Stamina is also handy when performing those slow-mo attacks in mid-air and charging in general.
It's your choice what you spend your Light of Blessings on, but either way, we suggest you keep Link's belly full and his arsenal stocked unless you want to get a one-shot from a rogue Boss Bokoblin.
