Giddy up The Sims fans, as it looks like Maxis' long-running series is about to ride into town with horses in tow. That's right, The Sims 4 could finally be adding horses to satisfy all your equestrian needs. If you can't afford a horse IRL, fear not, as the simulation favourite has you covered.

We've all heard the rumours that Maxis would be saddling up for its next The Sims 4 Expansion. Despite coming out in 2015, The Sims 4 has gone full GTA Online and kept us stocked with a fresh flow of Expansions and other DLC packs. Following March's Growing Together DLC, it seems we're going back to nature.

Is The Sims 4 getting a horse expansion?

GameScout previously claimed CDKeys had a landing page for The Sims 4: Horse Ranch expansion for PC. It was quickly stripped from the internet, suggesting it was the real deal. When it was up, the Horse Ranch page listed the DLC at $29.99/£23.99, which is pretty standard for a Sims Expansion.

This was just the start of the horse hunt, with the official The Sims YouTube account now counting down to a June 22 reveal that will showcase a "rootin' tootin' Expansion" among others, and it's convenient that it has "Take The Reins" shown on-screen too. If you weren't already sold on the idea, content creator SimMattically has also shared the first screenshots to seal the deal.

If you want to know more about what to expect, a massive Steam leak (via Sims Community) gave us all the details if this leak is to be believed. As well as enjoying a hoedown in town, you can throw a cookout, hire a ranch hand, and tend to foals. As you can imagine, the best bit is customising your horses in Create A Sim.

Have we had horses in The Sims before?

After the Cottage Living Expansion Pack added chicken, cows, and even llamas, horse fans were disappointed that our trusty steeds were nowhere to be found. Back in 2021, SimGuru Romeo explained (via Twitter), "Making horses with the quality and depth of gameplay they deserve is a substantial undertaking.

"We felt they are not core to the garden-to-table experience, so we focused on the animals that are in Cottage Living." However, saying that the team listens to feedback for future expansions, we've had our fingers/hooves crossed for a horse-themed expansion.

Even though it's the first time we'd be getting horses in The Sims 4, it's not the first time they've appeared in the series. The Sims 3: Pets introduced horses in 2011, but they were MIA from the console version. Even though horses didn't do much, we imagine they'll be more refined this time around.

Despite plenty of players looking ahead at the much-hyped The Sims 5 and a chance to go open-world (possibly on horseback), there's still a loyal crowd of us who are lured in by every Expansion and will happily pay the peace. Bring on those hooved heroes.
