Whoooooo lives in a bloodbath under the sea? SpongeGlock SquarePants. While we're used to the coral-coloured adventures of SpongeBob, Squidward, Patrick, and co., one developer has turned the idea into a Grand Theft Auto clone.

Since 1999, Nickelodeon's adorable cartoon has taken us to the dysfunctional underwater town of Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob SquarePants has spawned comics, theme park rides, and a franchise of movies. Now, someone has given the series a bloody revamp.

What Is The SpongeBob Survival Horror?

Capturing the aesthetic of Bikini Bottom, we step out from SpongeBob's pineapple and explore familiar locales like Sandy Cheeks' dome and The Krusty Krab, with cameos from the likes of Mrs Puff and King Neptune. Welcome to SpongeGlock SquarePants

We first noticed the game thanks to a tweet of one player taking out Mrs Puff. Well, we guess that's revenge for her refusing to pass SpongeBob' on his driving test. Going around and popping a cap in Puff isn't actually the aim of the game.

The premise is that it's "collection day", with SpongeBob going round to collect Mr Krabs' debts. He's told to go and "have a chat" with those at owing Mr K some clams, but as you can imagine, it soon descends into carnage. Mission objectives include the likes of "Go to Goo Goo Lagoon and assassinate Larry for his unpaid steroids".

Are There More Wild Crossovers?

Seeing SpongeBob SquarePants reimagined for adult audiences is frankly brilliant. With a dash of GTA mob warfare in it, Mr Krabs is like some sort Don Corleone, while SpongeBob is like GTA V's Franklin - trying to climb the ranks. Notably, this isn't Mix Morris' only work, with them previously adding guns to Mario and Pokemon - which reminds us of that Pokemon/CoD Zombies crossover

The first-person view of the SpongeBob game also gives us a survival horror perspective, and we're reminded of that Resident Evil mod that turned the Baker family into the cast of The Simpsons. Please can someone turn Lady Dimitrescu into Pearl from SpongeBob

Elsewhere, someone recently modded 1993's DOOM into Minecraft, meaning the seminal shooter is given a blocky redesign. Finally, someone else made Call of Duty into Dunder Mifflin for the ultimate crossover with The Office

SpongeGlock SquarePants is available to download through itch.io, and given that it's an indie game, it shouldn't take long to get through. In fact, people have even been speedrunning it. If you'd ever wondered what it would be like to put knock Squidward down a peg or two, why not take that nosey neighbour out with a bullet to the brain?
