One of the most special things about Helldivers 2 is that interjections from developers have been incredibly particular. Rather than opt for simple updates from the game's team that let players loose with their new toys, they've become a core part of the experience.

CEO Johan Pilestedt offers players insight into the game's creation, and other team members, like the now-iconic Joel, are changing in-game strategies for enemies to keep players on their toes. Helldivers feel like they're fighting alongside the game's creators, and sometimes, they actually are.

Having already made a name for himself as Helldivers 2's Dungeon & Dragons-inspired Game Master, Joel has actually jumped into a game with a team - accidentally revealing a brand-new vehicle.

Helldivers 2's Game Master gives players a new vehicle

A new video has leapt onto Twitter that shows just how much power Helldivers 2's Joel has. Here, he's gifted one squad a new vehicle that players didn't even know was in the game yet. Yes, it seems armoured personnel carriers are coming to Helldivers 2.

The Helldivers 2 Media Twitter account has shared a video that shows a team fighting for the liberation of Super Earth before Joel jumps into the game's chat after passively discovering a Detector Tower.

"Hey guys I need to get back to work," he says to the stunned squad, adding, "Please take this," and spawning in a brand-new armoured vehicle. The vehicle has been identified as an APC, and most players previously had no idea it was even in the game, let alone accessible to them.

Like with the early reveal of mechs, Helldivers 2 vehicles are randomly popping up in some matches. Some had already discovered Halo-esque Warthog recon buggies and APCs with protection and firepower. These vehicles were previously missing textures, but thanks to Joel, they could be just over the horizon.

The way that the Helldivers 2 devs have been interacting with players is a reminder that when those who create our games are genuinely invested in making them a great time for players, helping cultivate unforgettable gaming experiences.

The fact that Joel is present as a gameplay element of Helldivers 2 in the first place is a stroke of genius, but having him share new features with a random team rather than reveal it at large makes it even more exciting. It's a brilliant moment that showcases how interactive the Helldivers 2 team has been with managing our fun.

Arrowhead Game Studios is setting a new standard for game development right now, and whatever comes next in Helldivers 2, one thing's for certain - there's no way we’ll see it coming.
