The history of Grand Theft Auto is laden with fantastic characters, all in service of the franchise's wider satire of the USA. The games are packed to the brim with bizarre, criminally-minded, and disturbed people who pave the way for your maddening sandbox experience.
Without some of the most crucial characters, GTA simply wouldn't be the same. And now, fans are taking to the internet to issue their pitches on who the very best of the series' baddies could be.
GTA fans discuss the series’ best villains
GTA fans have taken to Reddit to discuss their favourite villain from the franchise's many stories. Although the series seems to have done away with the typical "good guys versus bad guys" archetype since the credits rolled on GTA IV, that doesn't mean there aren't some great antagonists still out there.
There are all sorts of answers peppering the Reddit post, like the ones pointing out that even Big Smoke himself counts as an antagonist after being blackmailed and turning his back on his friends. We'd love to see more love for GTA V's Trevor, but he wasn't included on the list.
For the most part, players have been reminiscing about the more clear-cut baddies of the series, like GTA III's Catalina and GTA IV’s Dimitri Rascalov. But when it comes to the biggest of the big bads, fans have a clear favourite.
GTA fans are claiming Tenpenny is the series’ best baddie
"Tenpenny is legendary, one of Samuel L. Jackson's finest performances and that's no small feat when you look at his career," comments one user, shining a light on San Andreas’ cop supreme.
"Oh Tenpenny for sure," adds another. "When I first played San Andreas that was the first time I've ever heard a big Movie actor play a role in a video game. Blew my f**king mind back then." Someone simply posted his infamous quote and wrote, "We can sh*t on you from such a height, you'll think God himself has crapped on you."
Some things clearly never change, and fans' favourite GTA antagonist is clearly counted in that. It looks like Tenpenny really does run this town. We don't know who the de facto villain of GTA 6 will be, but with whispers of Jason being an undercover cop who betrays Lucia, we're excited to find out.
