God of War was, for many, the sole reason to pick up a PlayStation 4. The story-led reboot of the hack-and-slash series blew long-time and new fans away with its sincerity and massive action, and defined the gaming era for a huge bulk of gaming fans.
The 2018 title is now considered one of the best games of all time (and after only a few years, that’s pretty high praise, as you can imagine), and it’s getting a chance at a new lease of life as the God of War PC port makes its way to us in January. But, some fans have noticed one key point about the port that might become a point of worry.
The God Of War PC Port Isn’t Made By Sony
In a statement to Arstechnica, Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that its in-house developers will not be working on the upcoming God of War PC port. Instead, the job has been outsourced to the Canadian team Jetpack Interactive with the consent and supervision of Santa Monica Studio.
Jetpack Interactive has made its name working on the likes of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare II and the PC port for Dark Souls. It’s clear that the company have its experience in porting, so hopefully, it should indicate there won’t be many problems with God of War's journey to PC.
Though there may be a lot of concern when it comes to the God of War PC port, this was incredibly likely, and it’s certainly not the end of the road.
Outsourcing PC Ports Is Standard Practice In Gaming
Don’t worry too much about the outsourcing of the port - because most ports are a result of outsourcing in the gaming industry. The likes of the Tomb Raider reboot’s ports are what put gaming company Nixxes on the map, while the same goes for Bluepoint Games and their PS5 port of Demon’s Souls.
Plus, this stands as a new opportunity for studios to shine - as both of the aforementioned studios have progressed to being purchased and welcomed into the PlayStation family.
Though it’s reasonable to be concerned about God of War’s arrival on PC without Santa Monica’s touch, it’s likely that they’ve outsourced due to their own work, and due to the fact that Jetpack Interactive would be better at working on development for PCs anyway.
This outsourcing is a good thing for both the game and Santa Monica Studio, and who knows, this opportunity could make Jetpack the next big name in development
