God Of War Mod Removes Kratos' Beard - And We Aren't Happy

As God of War modders make the most of its PC release, one modder takes the beard off 2018's Kratos and gives us a game that doesn't quite look right.

Some things just belong together. Like Banjo with Kazooie, Lara Croft and her dual pistols, and Call of Duty: Warzone with an invisibility glitch, 2018's God of War just wouldn't be God of War if Kratos didn't have his beard. Just imagine if someone gave him a shave.

While the early days of Kratos' saga had a much skinnier Ghost of Sparta besting gods and monsters in Ancient Greece, it was Sony Santa Monica's lauded reboot that took Kratos to colder climes. With a little more meat on his bones and a bushy beard to protect him from the elements, this Kratos is now the one most associated with the long-running franchise.

What Does Kratos Look Like Without A Beard?

We're undoubtedly in God of War's golden era, with the Norse mythology debut being one of the best-selling games of all time AND breaking the concurrent Steam player count record with its recent PC port. Of course, with a PC version, it wasn't long before the modding floodgates overran Midgard.

Safe to say, the results of DisablePP's Kratos No Beard No Eyebrows mod is the stuff of nightmares. Over on Nexus Mods, you can see what it looks like, and safe to say, we're freaked out. We know Kratos spent eight years without his bushy beard during his Greek days, but it just doesn't seem right seeing his naked face in the Norse chapter.

The mod completely strips Kratos of his facial hair, and while it still looks a bit like he has a Pringles Man-inspired moustache, it's just because the skin on his upper lip has a darker texture. He's still an intimidating presence, but we find ourselves missing Daddy Kratos.

What's Next For God Of War?

God of War Beard

Thankfully, beardy Kratos is back for this year's God of War Ragnarok. Although the final chapter in this era was supposed to launch last year, it's now poised to be one of 2022's biggest games

Departing Game Director Cory Barlog claims he doesn't know if Ragnarok will come to PC, but given the runaway success of the OG's port, we think Sony Santa Monica would be foolish not to cash in on all the potential it can. We don't know if you've heard, but rival Microsoft has just made the massive acquisition of Activision Blizzard
