It might've not exactly been a surprise that 2018's God of War was coming to PC, but that doesn't mean gamers haven't been clambering over each other to lift the Leviathan Axe in a whole new way.

As Sony Santa Monica gears up for God of War Ragnarok, we're going back to the start of Kratos' Norse adventure. It's a huge year for Sony games, and alongside Horizon Forbidden West and Ragnarok, it sounds like the OG God of War will be a big hitter.

Is God Of War Better On PC?

The first reviews are in, and apparently, the PC port of SSM's record-breaking title is even better the second time around. God of War is officially out on PC, with critics praising the former Game of the Year winner as yet another classic.

Over on Metacritic, God of War on PC has an impressive 93/100. Jetpack Interactive's port is getting rave reviews, while even critics can't help but praise the way Kratos and Atreus look. Comicbook.com gave it full marks and wrote, "The end product here shows that PlayStation is becoming much more experienced with this PC porting process, which isn't just a great thing for God of War, but it bodes well for the company's future plans in this space."

Game Rant also gave it the full 100 and added, "The magic on display with the PC port pushes an already tremendous game to new heights and offers some key features that will help it run well on a variety of modern machines."

VGC concluded, "God of War on PC is the definitive way to play an absolutely essential game. It’s never looked better, bringing into sharp relief an art style that’s colourful, brutal and incredibly inventive with practically faultless performance, even on a machine that isn’t at the absolute bleeding edge of PC technology."

At the other end of the spectrum, the lowest marks come from Siliconera and a (still respectable) 70. Here, the writer mused, "Overall, God of War feels like a game made with a specific audience in mind, and I don’t fall into its parameters. Regardless though, the God of War PC port holds up well, gameplay remains similar, and it can be accessible to people with a variety of rigs. For that reason alone, it may be worth a shot."

A handy video from GameSpot shows the differences between the former PS4-exclusive and the PC port. Here, they show off the PS5 version of the title and it running on a high-end PC. The problem is, God of War's controls still aren't optimised for PC - meaning you might be best using a gamepad for now.

When God of War gets these abilities, it'll open the doors to Valhalla and a wider range of accessibility for the lauded game. Importantly, the impressive PC port gives hope to the idea that more Sony favourites will get the same treatment - we're looking at you The Last of Us. Thankfully, it proved that not every port is just another cash-grab like Grove Street Games' maligned rehash of the GTA Trilogy
