God of War has its fair share of secrets - in fact, it’s secrets themselves that influence the majority of the game’s narrative. Kratos’ reluctance to tell his son Atreus who he truly is and the lineage of brutality he comes from is what ends up putting him in the most danger, and the game’s finale comes with closure from secrecy - for the most part.

WARNING: SPOILER AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED GOD OF WAR (2018)

One of the game’s central figures, Freya, has plenty to hide too - with the end of the game revealing that she was, in fact, Queen of the Valkyries but had her wings stolen by Odin.

However, it appears that there's more to this story than meets the eye.

Freya has valkyrie wings hanging up in her home

One fan has discovered a detail in Freya's home that has been hidden in plain sight ever since the game’s launch.

Reddit user Kordben has posted a screenshot from God of War to the GodofWar subreddit, of a dark pair of wings hanging in Freya’s house, with a caption that draws her into question. "So if Freya asked Mimir regarding where Odin hide [sic] her wings then what are these in her house?" it reads.

Fans in the comments have pointed out that these wings look much like the wings of the Valkyries, the female warriors who guide people to Valhalla after a noble death. “How tf did I not notice this ever”, reads one comment. “The wings were right there all this time pointing to her being the queen of the Valkyries”.

Obviously this is a really cool detail, however some fans are thinking that it’s an entirely wrong theory.

Fans think the ‘Wings’ are Freya’s magic cloak

“It’s not Valkyrie wings”, responds one fan in the comments, assertive that the suggestion is false. “In the myths, Freya has some kind of cloak that lets her transform into a hawk. That’s what we see in the Ragnarok trailer, too, when she’s wearing those wings, so my guess is it’s that cloak.”

It’s a fair point, especially as in her (relatively vicious) appearance in the trailer for Ragnarok, she is seen to be wearing a dark cloak that looks very similar to this.

It could just be the mythical cloak, or a much deeper secret - but chances are, we’ll find out next year in the final game of the Norse saga. No matter what secrets Freya holds - chances are, she’ll still be pretty miffed with Kratos.
