There are few actors we imagine could take on God of War's Kratos, but if anyone can, it's Arnold Schwarzenegger. The 74-year-old has done a lot in his time, and from being Mr. Universe to holding up the Terminator franchise and even being Governor of California, there isn't much he hasn't done. Now, he's possibly set his sights on a new challenge.

Sony's God of War franchise has (literally) been going from strength to strength since 2005, and with 2022 heralding God of War Ragnarok's release, Kratos is ready to flex his muscles all over again. Away from the record-breaking franchise, there have been obvious talks about the potential of a live-action movie. So, where are we up to?

Is Arnold Schwarzenegger In A God Of War Movie?

The idea of Arnie suiting up for God of War comes courtesy of the man himself. Posting on Twitter, Schwarzenegger shared an image of himself as Zeus for a mysterious project of the same name. The star simply said Zeus is coming in 2022, but left it up to us to try and decipher what this actually means.

Schwarzenegger's only IMDb listing for 2022 is Kung Fury 2 with Michael Fassbender, so we're not sure what's going on here. Others pointed to the fact that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson claims to be involved in a massive video game adaptation, with a lot of gaming fans pitching a live-action Gears of War or God of War. Remembering that the early GoW games had Kratos going up against Zeus, some have joined the dots with Arnie's announcement.

With The Rock's tease and Schwarzenegger's post, it's not too hard to imagine the Hollywood megastars teaming up for a live-action God of War. Then again, it's equally likely that the latter is just trolling us. For all we know, he just picked up some fan art. With Schwarzenegger claiming February is when the announcement is being made, at least we don't have long to wait.

Who Should Play Kratos In God Of War?

Since Johnson teased his big video game news, the internet has been split on whether he's the right man to wield the blades of chaos. Way back when, Gerard Butler was reportedly attached to play Kratos, while others continue to champion Parks and Rec's Nick Offerman. Jason Momoa is another popular choice, but at the time of writing, this is purely fan speculation.

Sony was once touting an R-rated God of War movie, and while it's unclear whether that's still the case, we think it would be the best route to take. Even though the franchise has had a massive boost since 2018's move to Norse mythology, we imagine a movie would go back to the start and chart Kratos' brutal battle with Zeus. Even if The Rock isn't involved, we can't think of anyone better than Schwarzenegger to play the lightning bolt-throwing god.
