If you thought THAT massive Nvidia leak was one for the ages, that's nothing compared to the Grand Theft Auto megadump that's just rocked the gaming world. Rockstar Games has a troubled history with its biggest titles being leaked ahead of time, and just like when the Red Dead Redemption 2 map dropped before it was supposed to, we've got our first insight into the next chapter of the Grand Theft Auto lineage.

Although it's been long-rumoured that we'd be returning to the fan-favourite Vice City - and that GTA 6 would feature a female protagonist - the massive leak has seemingly confirmed it. Rockstar is yet to comment on the leaked screenshots and videos, but given the sheer speed they've been scrubbed from the internet, it looks like this is the real deal.

Fans React To The GTA 6 Leaks

Rockstar itself has been typically tight-lipped on what's going on with GTA 6, announcing it earlier this year and simply saying development is well underway. Despite rumours of turmoil behind the scenes, as well as development possibly having to be restarted, the leaks show an early build of GTA 6 that gives away a surprising amount of detail. Still, not everyone is happy.

When Twitter user @MrTLexify reminded us that it's an in-progress build, the comments soon filled with venom. Remembering that GTA 6 has reportedly been in development for years, there's disappointment that the leaks don't show a more polished version of the automotive adventure. The OP said that the quote retweets prove that people don't understand how video game development works, however, that hasn't stopped the leaks being ripped apart.

One angry gamer fumed, "It looks ass though. I give up on grand theft auto and rockstar as a whole. Just another mid developer that doesn't deserve the hardware we have now." Another added, "It's gta v.5 . It may as well be dlc. Nothing about it say GTA6 for ps5. Even in very early stages, it's a copy," while a third concluded, "Shame to see you defending Rockstar’s laziness, Lex. After a decade the game should look better than that."

When Will GTA 6 Release?

It remains to be seen what happens next. Most likely, Rockstar will have to speak out about the leaks and confirm they're the real deal. Then again, the developer will probably tuck tail and hide. We're not sure where the leaks came from, but if Rockstar was clever, it might've leaked them itself to drum up interest and learn what players like or don't

We're also unsure about how/if the leak will affect the GTA 6 release date. Playing the long game, Rockstar has refused to give GTA 6 a concrete release. In today's society where everything from Hogwarts Legacy to God of War Ragnarok have been hit by many delays, it makes sense that the developer doesn't want to lock itself into a tight schedule. By the looks of the footage, we're still a fair few years out from racing around Vice City as Lucia and Jason.
