It's possibly the most-anticipated video game of all time, but if you're hoping for some good news when it comes to GTA 6, insiders claim it could be a dumpster fire of epic proportions. Could the Grand Theft Auto series really be destined to repeat the mistakes of the GTA Trilogy

While we've known for years that Rockstar is tinkering away in the garage on the long-awaited GTA V sequel, it was only in February this year that the developer made it official. The announcement tweet was liked more times than the Avengers: Infinity War trailer, and with GTA V being the most profitable entertainment product of all time, GTA 6's hype puts it on track to overtake its predecessor.

What's Going On With GTA 6?

According to notorious leaker Tom Henderson, things are a little strained over at Rockstar HQ. Replying to a leak that claims the game will take place in Columbia and Miami, Henderson said it should be taken with a grain of salt because these reports came amidst a "very turbulent development."

Although he doesn't expand on what exactly a turbulent development involves, it's hardly the positive development you'd hope for from GTA 6. This isn't the first we've heard about a troublesome road to release for GTA 6. Even though it was later downplayed, insider Chris Klippel seemed to suggest GTA 6 was in development hell and had been restarted.

Whether in development hell or chugging along nicely, you aren't likely to hear anything official from GTA 6 in the near future. Fans have already been warned there won't be any updates in 2022. Even then, we're presumably a long way off learning about the game's characters and story - despite what all those leaks say. Henderson's report also goes against other insiders who claim they've seen GTA 6 and it looks incredible. Basically, watch your step with anything GTA

What's The GTA 6 Release Date?

Still, there's a glimmer of hope from Henderson. He claims that he still believes GTA 6 will release in 2024 or 2025 - which fits with a lot of what we've heard before. Then again, the idea that we'll have to wait another three years until we get behind the wheel will mean it's been a ridiculous 12 years between entries. Yeah, good luck with seeing GTA 7 in this lifetime.

At least the fact that Rockstar has finally announced GTA 6 means that work is officially underway. We've seen games like Cyberpunk 2077 fall under the weight of their own ego and promised release dates, so maybe it's for the best that Rockstar isn't backing itself into a corner. We've already waited nine years, what's a few more between friends?
