Prestigious leaker/dataminer Lucas7yoshi spent the past few days analysing thousands of replays. In total, Lucas7yoshi took notes on over 309,000 players. The end goal? To figure out the most used cosmetic items in Fortnite. In this piece, we will be studying the harvesting tools, or pickaxes. Some of the results may be expected, while others will surprise you. Did your favourite pickaxe make the list? Let’s find out.

10. Default Pickaxe

At number ten, we have no other than the Default Pickaxe. We’re honestly surprised that the Default Pickaxe is not higher on the list. After all, the Default skin is the most used skin in Fortnite.

Based on Lucas7yoshi’s data, the Default Pickaxe is used by two-three players per game.

9. Groot’s Sap Axes

Groot’s Sap Axes is one of the rare harvesting tools that can be both dual-wielded and held two-handed. Groot’s special pickaxe has two styles. Players can wield both Sap Axes or just one. Groot’s Sap Axes' versatility earns it a spot in the top ten most used pickaxes list.

8. Ice Breaker

Released back in January of 2018, Ice Breaker is still one of the most used pickaxes in all of Fortnite. This Uncommon rarity pickaxe has made a whopping 19 total appearances in the Item Shop. Players just keep buying it! Ice Breaker is a clean, simple alternative to those looking to differentiate from the Default Pickaxe. At only 500 V-Bucks, Ice Breaker is the best bang for your buck.

7. Gilded Morphic Blades

Like Groot’s Sap Axes, the Gilded Morphic pickaxe comes in two styles. Players can dual-wield the Gilded Morphic Blades. However, there is also the option of wielding the Gilded Morphic Spear with both hands. Just like Mystique, the Marvel character this pickaxe belongs to, the Gilded Morphic pickaxe can shapeshift into whatever the user desires.

6. Mk. 85 Energy Blade

At number six, we have Iron Man’s personal pickaxe, the MK. 85 Energy Blade. This fearsome blade is expelled from Iron Man’s gauntlet. The MK. 85 Energy Blade has a unique swing animation. The user thrusts their arm from side to side, slashing with the Energy Blade. The MK. 85 Energy Blade’s one-of-a-kind features explain its place on this list.

5. Hand of Lightning

Think of the MK. 85 Energy Blade, but for Storm. That is the Hand of Lightning. The Hand of Lightning pickaxe allows the user to wield the power of lightning. And who doesn’t wish they could control lightning? It’s easy to see how this pickaxe made it into the top five.

4. Reaper

Reaper was one of the first pickaxes ever released in Fortnite: Battle Royale. Reaper released back in 2017 with Ghoul Trooper and Skull Trooper. Besides its status as OG, Reaper is famous for its distinctive sound design.

Along the way, Reaper gained the reputation of a “sweat” pickaxe. Everyone that used Reaper was a 'try-hard'. When Reaper was finally re-released, players swarmed the Item Shop to purchase it. Nowadays, it’s one of the most commonly used pickaxes in the game.

3. Driver

Driver is popular for the same reasons as Ice Breaker. Not everyone wants a flashy, colourful pickaxe. Some people just like to keep it simple. For just 500 V-Bucks, Driver is an affordable option for these types of players — or just anyone that loves the sport of golf.

2. Throwback Axe

Take us back to Chapter 1. When the black hole event occurred, not only did we lose the old map, but we lost the original default styles — including the pickaxe. We received new styles in Chapter 2, but it just wasn’t the same. The community yearned for the pickaxe they grew up with.

Well, Epic Games answered the call. At the beginning of November, they released the Throwback Axe. The Throwback Axe is a replica of the Chapter 1 Default Pickaxe. The nostalgia is real, as the Throwback Axe is the second most used pickaxe in all of Fortnite.

1. Star Wand

At number one, we have the Star Wand. This may surprise some readers, but there is a good reason for this.

Last September, the Star Wand accidentally received a major buff. For a short time, the Star Wand could deal 56 damage per hit and 80 damage on headshots. The Star Wand could eliminate enemy players with just two swings! Every other pickaxe still dealt 20 damage per hit. As you’d expect, players rushed to the Item Shop in hopes of acquiring this overpowered pickaxe.

The Star Wand has since been nerfed, but that hasn’t stopped players from continuing to use it in remembrance of the ludicrous oversight. Out of 309,000 players analysed, an insane 18,217 had the Star Wand equipped. That makes it the most used pickaxe in Fortnite.
