What are the rarest skins in Fortnite as of 2024?

One of the best things about Fortnite is being able to show off your personal style with skins, but some of these outfits haven't been available for a very long time - and they've become very rare because of it.

There are now well over a thousand skins in the popular battle royale game, ranging from original characters like Renegade Raider to special crossovers like Naruto and Lady Gaga. And while they don't offer any competitive advantage, they've become must-have items.

Top 10 rarest skins in Fortnite of all time

With almost seven years of skins in the game, from Battle Pass exclusives to Outfits that are only available with limited-edition consoles, I've rounded up the rarest Fortnite skins of all time. Do you have any of them?

10. Travis Scott

There have been plenty of real-life celebrity skins in Fortnite, from John Cena to Lewis Hamilton, but the one that fans keep asking for is Travis Scott. He only ever appeared in Fortnite's Item Shop during his in-game concert back in April 2020, and he's been absent from the game ever since.

It seems like every month there's a rumour about the Travis Scott skin coming back to Fortnite, but none of them have come true so far. I have a feeling fans are going to have to accept that he might never return.

9. Black Knight

There have been loads of variations of the Knight skin in Fortnite over the years - including a customisable Spectra Knight skin in the OG Battle Pass - but the Black Knight skin is without a doubt the rarest of them all.

This skin was only available to Fortnite players who reached Level 70 in the game's very first battle pass during Chapter 1: Season 2. This was back in 2017, when the game wasn't as popular as it is now, so the number of players who have it is likely going to be very low.

8. Double Helix

Double Helix is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch Double Helix Bundle. To get this rare Fortnite skin, you had to enter a code that could only be acquired through the purchase of limited-edition Nintendo Switch consoles released back in 2018. If you were solely after the Double Helix skin, it would set you back $250.

Getting a Double Helix code nowadays will likely cost you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars - and that's if you're even able to find one of the bundles. As far as rare skins go, there's a reason you don't see many people using the Double Helix skin in Fortnite!

7. Royale Bomber

Like many of the other Fortnite skins on this list, Royale Bomber is another promotional skin. Similar to the Double Helix variation, you had to buy one of the Fortnite PlayStation 4 Bundles back in 2018 to get the Royale Bomber outfit.

This rare skin was popularised during the 2019 Fortnite World Cup. Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf won the Fortnite World Cup with this skin equipped, making it an instant go-to for collectors.

It's now pretty much impossible to get hold of the Royale Bomber skin, and if you are able to find it you'll no doubt be paying an arm and a leg to get it. Because of this, the skin is incredibly desirable, particularly for those who play Fortnite on a PlayStation console.

6. Shaman

The Shaman is an Epic-rated skin that was first released in the Item Shop during Chapter 1: Season 9 of Fortnite. Since then, it's made a few reappearances, the last of which was way back in December 2019.

As part of the Moonbone set, this Epic-rated skin's price point was a little bit higher as well, as it was obtainable within the Item Shop for 1,500 V-Bucks. Whether it'll make its way back into the shop in the future remains to be seen, but it's a brilliant skin with a great design that means you'll stand out from the crowd as one of Fortnite's long-time players if this one is tucked away in your Locker.

5. Reflex

When it comes to Item Shop skins, you don't get much rarer than Reflex. This outfit was last seen in the shop way back in March 2019, meaning it's been more than four years since you could last purchase it.

The Reflex skin might not be as exciting as some other entries on the list, but your chances of seeing it in a match at this point are slim to none. The title of 'rarest Item Shop skin' was previously held by Special Forces, but that outfit eventually returned to the shop in April 2023.

4. Renegade Raider

This rare skin has been around since the very beginning of Fortnite. In fact, Renegade Raider is so old that it even predates the Battle Pass System that's now so commonplace within the game. To obtain it, players had to reach level 20 and then go to the Item Shop, where this skin was purchasable for 1,200 V-Bucks.

Due to this outfit being released before Fortnite became massively popular, only a select few players have this skin, so it could be considered 'vintage' by the game's standards at this point. Anyone who does own it has been playing the Epic Games battle royale since its inception, making it a highly valuable addition to the rarest skins in Fortnite.

3. Aerial Assault Trooper

Tied with Renegade Raider for the title of oldest skin on this list, Aerial Assault Trooper was one of the very first skins introduced into Fortnite. Back in Season 1, before the Battle Pass existed, there were a few cosmetic items that could only be purchased once a player reached a certain level.

Aerial Assault Trooper was purchasable at level 15 in the game - so not only did you have to reach level 15 in Season 1, but you also had to spend 1,200 V-Bucks to unlock the skin This was back in 2017 when no one knew what Fortnite would become or the value of a rare 'OG' skin.

To top it off, it's not like Aerial Assault Trooper is exactly a unique or super appealing outfit. Combine these facts together and you have an extremely rare entry amongst the rarest Fortnite skins owned by very few players.

2. Honor Guard

Fortnite skins can be quite expensive these days, especially the ones for licensed characters, but the Honor Guard may take the crown for being the highest.

While some Fortnite skins have been tied to promotions, the Honor Guard was only available for players who purchased an Honor View 20 smartphone. A couple of factors increased its rarity: one being that it's not an overly popular phone, and another being that the phone was never available in North America.

This makes the Honor Guard an extremely rare skin, so if you do manage to have it, guard it with your life.

What is the rarest skin in Fortnite?

1. Galaxy

Released as a cross-promotion between Samsung and Epic Games, Galaxy is easily the rarest skin in Fortnite. To obtain it, you had to download Fortnite on the Galaxy App Store and play three matches on either the Galaxy Note 9 or the Galaxy Tablet S4.

So not only did you have to own a specific (and expensive) device to get the Galaxy skin, but you also had to have been playing Fortnite back in 2018 when it was released. This skin is no longer available to claim, and the chances are it will never be available again.

The extreme cost and limited availability combined with the stunning aesthetics of the Galaxy skin help earn it the title of the rarest amongst the rarest skins in Fortnite. It's one of my holy grail skins, and I wish I had it!

Fortnite has been bringing back classic skins

This list of rarest skins remained consistent for a very long time, but in recent months, Epic Games has been bringing back quite a few old-school skins to the Item Shop which has effectively removed their 'rare' status.

Popular crossovers including the original Black Widow from Marvel and the Demogorgon and Chief Hopper from the Netflix series Stranger Things have returned, so I've had to replace quite a few skins on this list.
