Routine was first revealed a decade ago by the small UK-based indie team Lunar Software, and over the years there were updates and trailers, but the game never seemed to come before slowly fading from public view as the devs went silent.

At Summer Game Fest 2022 we finally got a re-reveal trailer for the title, where it was confirmed that the game wasn't dead, it would be scored by Mick Gordon of DOOM 2016 fame, and the devs teamed with Raw Fury to bring it back to life.

So for everything we know about Routine, including the trailer, gameplay, and more, read on.

The re-reveal trailer that came at Summer Game Fest showcases some very fuzzy and low-fidelity camera footage of some interiors before showing a space station in orbit of the moon, and then a shot of someone looking out at Earth.

It then moves into some gameplay where the player sneaks up toward a robot that seems to be roaming the halls of the moon base before one sneaks up on them and kills them. There's a very clear horror tone, that pairs well with the retro sci-fi technology and the artificial aesthetic.

What do we know about the Routine gameplay?

It's confirmed the Routine will be a first-person horror game, where the player will explore a moon base that suddenly goes quiet as a robotic enemy takes over.

The developer has emphasised the immersive aspects of the game, designing it with a minimal UI and "full body awareness" to fully bring out the horror. There will also be a focus on running and hiding from enemies, but you are given a weapon called the C.A.T that can be used as a last resort.

What platforms will Routine launch on?

The game is set to launch on the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It will also come to Xbox Game Pass the same day that it launches.
