Octopath Traveller 2: Release Date, Trailers, Gameplay, And More

One of the biggest surprises to come out of the Nintendo Direct from September 13, was the reveal of Octopath Traveller 2. The original Octopath Traveller was a surprise itself when it was first announced in 2017, pairing the pixel artstyle of classic Square NES games, with modern HD effects and polygonal environment design. The sequel is very similar to the first, with its interconnecting narrative that includes eight stories from eight playable characters, and a turn-based combat system, but there are some new aspects. Octopath Traveller 2 Release Date

The game was confirmed to be releasing worldwide on February 24, 2023 during its announcement at the Nintendo Direct on September 13. Pre-ordering the game will net you some bonus items to use in-game, and you can also purchase the Collectors Edition, which features an art book, models of the main characters, and a soundtrack CD.

Octopath Traveller 2 Trailers

There have been two trailers released for Octopath Traveller 2 so far. The announcement trailer dropped during the September Nintendo Direct, which detailed the game and set up how it differs from the first entry. Each of the eight characters and their general story outline was introduced, along with the new path actions system that changes based on the time of day, and the change from a medieval setting to an industrial revolution was highlighted. There was also a much longer showcase that debuted at TGS 2022, where the developers spoke about aspects of the game and showed 20 minutes of gameplay.

Octopath Traveller 2 will have essentially the same gameplay as the first, but there are some differences with the characters that lead to some gameplay changes. Principally, it's an RPG where players choose one of the eight characters to start the story with, and eventually play through all of their stories that intertwine and lead to a wider narrative. Each character has unique actions and abilities, such as Hikari, who can battle NPCs to learn their skills.

The game is played from a side-on/top-down perspective, with a mix of exploration gameplay in the wild and in towns, and turn-based combat. During each of these sections, you can have a party of characters, which will slowly build as you play through more of the stories.
