You may want to know the MW2 install size now the game has been released worldwide and players are starting to pour into the latest entry in the COD franchise. If you still haven't downloaded Modern Warfare 2, you may be in for a long haul unless you have gigabit internet, as the file size is huge, even for modern standards. So, if you are wondering about the MW2 install size for the different platforms, we've got you covered.

The MW2 install size is different on all platforms, but they are still very large file sizes, coming in at well over 80 GB at the least. Some of the platforms have split aspects of the game into different downloads, such as the base game, and then the campaign on its own, and that's all with a day-one patch thrown on top. It's worth noting that whether you have a physical or digital copy, you will still need to download the entire game. The physical disc only comes with 72 MB worth of data on it, meaning it doesn't even 99% of the full data required to play the game. This is bad news for those who have poor internet, so you may have to settle in for over a day of continuous downloading.

  • Base Game - 35.4 GB
  • Campaign Packs - 16.7 GB

PlayStation 5 

  • Base Game - 42.9 GB
  • Campaign Packs - 19.1 GB

 

Xbox

  • Base Game - 81.8 GB

PC

  • Battle.net - 34.6 GB
  • Steam - 29.9 GB

These install sizes are based on the preload, but there will be an additional 40 GB day one patch. It's also worth noting that Steam recommends a total space of 125 GB on your drive, and on the PC settings menu, you can enable the Hi-Rez Assets Cache for 32 GB of space to make the game run better on higher settings.
