MultiVersus is the next best thing to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as the characters are well-designed and the controls are almost as precise. However, is it possible to play a MultiVersus offline mode and can you play the game locally? We have the answer below for you.

Does a MultiVersus Offline Mode Exist?

When you first boot up MultiVersus, you’ll see that it will need to connect to the servers. After a short while, it will send you to the main menu, and you’ll be ready to battle in no time.

Unfortunately, when you try to boot it up offline, MultiVersus will not work as the game requires an online connection. This will be the same across all platforms, including PC, Xbox, and PlayStation systems.

On the positive side, at least when you are connected, you can play with your friends no matter what system they’re on as MultiVersus supports crossplay.

Fighting games were born in the arcade and on classic consoles since the NES, SNES, and beyond. MultiVersus thankfully continues that decades long trend as you can play games locally on the couch with your buddies or sworn foes at tournaments.

You’ll still need to maintain an internet connection to access local matches, however. You can find this option under “Play” and then the tab “Custom”. Once you get into this screen, select “Local Play,” which has Superman and Batman facing off against each other.

If you’re familiar with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the next screen should look familiar to you. You have the character roster in rows and while you’re on this screen, up to four controllers can join in on the action. On the top right, there’s a symbol that looks like a book. Click it and you can change the rules to your specificity.

You can change the game mode (Teams, 1v1, or Free-For All), number of ringouts (1-4), the time (2 mins to Unlimited), and finally whether or not you want stage hazards on.

Disappointingly, you cannot add AI bots to the match. So, if this mode is popular, the developer Player First Games should implement them into Local Play.

If you’re keen to play MultiVersus early and check out the next big fighting game, you can purchase a Founder’s Pack for instant access and a bunch of rewards. If you already have this crossover spectacular, you may want to dive into the ranked mode.
