Is MW2 Cross Platform? Can You Play Modern Warfare 2 Crossplay?
Want to know if Modern Warfare 2 is cross-platform? With the ongoing console wars still trudging on, and many players now adopting multiple different platforms to play Call of Duty on, the stance for cross-platform gameplay has since shifted from a luxury to a necessity. With Modern Warfare 2 on the horizon, also bringing us DMZ and Warzone 2, fans are now wondering if they'll be able to keep your progression over multiple devices. So, is MW2 cross platform?

Is MW2 Cross Platform?
Click to enlargeCross-Platform content, such as cross-play and cross-progression will all be available in MW2, although it works in more than one way. With players now operating on multiple platforms in the current day, Modern Warfare 2 will continue to work off Activision accounts, rather than generic platform accounts.
This means that when you load up the game, you will be required to log into your Activision account, which can be shared on more than one console and platform. You can only play on one console at a time, but you will be able to share your XP progression through every platform.
The most usual form of Cross-Platform play will stem from Warzone 2. Here, many players might have the free-to-play mode on PC, for example, and MW2 on console. Again, your progression and XP will continue to be shared, although you cannot share Modern Warfare 2 itself across platforms (you will need to purchase the game twice to filter across multiple platforms such as Xbox and PC).
The only part of Modern Warfare 2 that will not be cross-platform is CoD Points. These will remain on the platform which you bought them from. As for physical forms of the game (bought on discs and not digitally) will be cross-platform too, with the Cross gen Bundle.

What Does The MW2 Cross Gen Bundle Include?
Unlike previous years, the standard edition of Modern Warfare 2 will be the cross-gen bundle. Both Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard had a single-platform disc and charged more for a cross-gen bundle, however, Modern Warfare will be introducing the cross-gen bundle as the lowest-value version of the game.
The Cross-Gen discs will only work for the same variety of consoles though (Xbox One to Xbox Series S|X and PS4 to PS5), and can't be mixed and matched if you switch allegiances (Xbox One to PS5 etc.). If you do switch platforms, you'll have to buy the game again.
The Modern Warfare 2 Vault Edition is also Cross-Gen, but will come with the additional benefits of a Red Team 141 Operator Pack, an FJX Cinder Weapon Vault, free access to the Battle Pass (1 Season) with 50 Tier Skips, early access to the Open Beta, and the Ghost Legacy Pack in MW2/WZ.
