You need to know how to charge Nintendo Switch controllers to be sure your gaming sessions aren't cut short. Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are a delight to use with excellent HD rumble features and they fit nicely in the hand. However, considering the controllers can be kept apart from the main console, how do you keep the charge up? That's why we are here, with our guide on how to charge Nintendo Switch controllers.

If you are wondering how to charge Nintendo Switch controllers, the easiest and most common method is to reattach them to the base console. Slide either of the Joy-Cons along the railing on the side of the screen until you hear a satisfying click. Once the controllers are slotted into the side, you will be able to play any of your favourite Nintendo games on a portable device, and it doubles up nicely as a charging station for the controllers. However, just be sure that the Switch itself is topped up, as no power there, means no power in the remotes either.

An easy way to ensure that you don't need to have the controllers docked into the Switch to charge all the time is by clicking them in place every time you aren't playing. It's super easy to leave controllers lying around, but if you dock them when you are away it saves you from having to wait around or play in a particular way while it charges.

In our second way to charge Nintendo Switch controllers, we recommend picking up a charging grip. You will receive a controller grip with the Nintendo Switch, however, while it can make for a more comfortable docked experience, it doesn't actually charge the Joy-Cons. While a charging grip might set you back $30/£25, it can be a great way to keep those controllers charged up. Not only this but it can extend those longer docked sessions where you are kicking back on the couch.

If you find yourself in possession of a Switch pro controller, charging shouldn't be as much of an immediate issue. However, if you are wondering how to charge the Nintendo Switch pro controllers, it is a far simpler process. The pro controller can be charged by simply plugging in a USB-C cable. Similarly with the charging grip, you can also purchase an official charging stand for the pro controller which makes the process all the easier.
