Figuring out World Trasnfer in FFXIV can be very important for a number of different reasons. It might be that the Final Fantasy XIV queues are too long, or your friend is in a different world, making the jump well worth it. However, it is not as simple as it might seem, so check out the guide below for everything you need if you are wondering how to transfer worlds in the game.

How do you transfer worlds

In order to transfer worlds in FFXIV, players must use the Home World Transfer Service, but that can be a bit complicated and has quite a few restrictions too. Here are the following parameters that you must make sure that you meet before you start the World Transfer Service:

  • You must own Final Fantasy XIV and not be on a free trial.
  • It must be at least three days since you last used the Home World Transfer Service.
  • You must be logged out of Final Fantasy XIV.
  • You cannot be currently in a free company, holding a free company petition, signed to a free company petition, or applying to join a free company.
  • You cannot have items for sale on the market.
  • You can't have items entrusted to the Calamity Salvager NPC.
  • You must rehire any retainers carried over from Version 1.0.
  • You cannot have any reservations made for a Ceremony of Eternal Bonding.
  • You cannot be currently undertaking the quest 'The Ties that Bind'.
  • You cannot be in possession of a blank invitation from an Eternal Bonding ceremony that has not taken place yet.
  • Your character must not own any land, estate, or apartment housing.
  • You can refrain from relinquishing control of your land if you are moving to a New World, or transferring from a Congested World to a Preferred World.
  • You cannot have housing items in the care of the Resident Caretaker NPC.
  • You cannot have chocobo in the care of the Housing Enthusiast NPC.
  • You cannot be designated as a housemate of anyone on your Friend List.
  • You must retrieve any optional items purchased on the Online Store from the Delivery Moogle.
  • Your character must have enough inventory space to receive new items if transferring to a New World, or from a Congested World to a Preferred World.

You will additionally be unable to transfer worlds under the following circumstances:

  • Your character has been transferred from Version 1.0 but you have not played the game since.
  • You have not completed the Close to Home quest.
  • Your character is not displayed within Mog Station.
  • Your character is under the 90-day transfer restriction after moving or being created on a New World.
  • Your character is under the 90-day transfer restriction after transferring from a Congested World or created on a Preferred World.
  • You have a pending name change that is yet to be processed.
  • Your character is away from their Home World or has logged out while on another world.

You must also make sure that you do not create any new characters or attempt to log into the character that you are moving until the world transfer is complete - as painful as the wait might seem.

In order to actually use the Home World Transfer service, check out the step-by-step guide below for all of the details:

  • Log in to Mog Station with the character that you wish to transfer.
  • Select 'Games & Additional Services' under the 'Service Account Dashboard' on the left-hand side.
  • Click on Home World Transfer Service and follow through the steps in order to complete the process.

It is actually a very straightforward action once you've confirmed that you meet the requirements, and you should hopefully then be in your new world soon after.

Does the home world transfer service cost money?

There are some instances where you will have to pay to use the Home World Transfer Service in Final Fantasy XIV, but you must first understand the four different World types. They are as follows:

  • New World:
    • 'A recently added World. Players who transfer to or create new characters on designated New Worlds will receive special bonuses.'
  • Congested World:
    • 'A crowded, highly populated World. Cannot be selected for new character creation or Home World Transfer destinations.'
  • Standard World:
    • 'Inhabited by a manageable number of player characters.'
  • Preferred World:
    • 'Relatively sparsely populated World with room to spare. Players who transfer to or create new characters on these Worlds will receive special bonuses.'

Transfers from any World type to a World that is classified as New will be completely free, alongside transfers from Congested Worlds to Preferred Worlds. Outside of this, however, you will have to pay $18.00/£12.00/€14.00 per transfer to change your World outside of the specific conditions listed above.

You can check the status of each World in Final Fantasy XIV on the official website here, as they can change based on the current player population - especially around the time of expansions.
