While you are travelling the world of Eorzea, you are likely to come across Aetheryte crystals throughout FFXIV. They might seem a bit daunting as they are generally pretty big structures in main cities, but you don't need to panic.

The world of FFXIV is expansive with a lot of different items for you to purchase, including Aetheryte tickets, which can be an incredibly useful item if you're trying to save up Gil, perhaps to buy a house in the game.

We will tell you everything you need to know about FFXIV's Aetheryte crystals, what they do, and how to use them.

What is Aetheryte in FFXIV?

Aetheryte are huge crystal structures that you can find in the main cities in Eorzea. Your first interaction with them will attract you to them. Once you've done that, you will be able to teleport via the Aetheryte.

Some Aetherytes aren't available until later in the game and are expansion-specific. However, you can access quite a few from the get-go. For example, you’ll be able to unlock the areas in Ul’Dah, New Gridania, and Limsa Lominsa very early on in the game. There are plenty more to unlock, though!

How to use Aetheryte in FFXIV

Using an Aetheryte in FFXIV is very simple. Once you’ve attuned yourself to it, there will be a new menu that appears when you click on the crystal. You will now be able to use the following options:

  • Aethernet - Shows all other Aetherytes that you are attuned to and can teleport to
  • Set Home Point - When you use Return, this is where you will go
  • Register Favored Destination - Lowers teleporting costs. Up to three locations can be marked as favored, four if you have the XIV mobile app
  • Register Free Destination - Only one destination can be marked as free. When you teleport, it won’t cost you anything

Equally, you can teleport to an Aetheryte by using the teleport button on your action bar. This will bring up the list of Aetherytes you can teleport to, and the Gil cost for teleporting to the area. Once you’ve chosen one, there will be a small channeling time before you arrive at your next destination.

If you’re strapped for cash and have some Aetheryte tickets on you, using them is a great way to avoid paying the fee to teleport. You will be able to teleport to one location of your choosing that you have unlocked within the Aethernet, and instead of Gil being used to paying for your journey, an Aetheryte ticket will be consumed instead.

Here are all of the different ways you can get Aetheryte tickets in the game.

  • Five Allied Seals for one Aetheryte ticket from your Grand Company
  • Purchased from Ardolain in Foundation for five Centurio Seals to get one Aetheryte ticket
  • Quests
  • Recruit a Friend bonus
  • Trade with Calamity Savager, one Gold Chocobo feather for ten Aetheryte tickets

That’s everything you need to know about Aetheryte in Final Fantasy XIV.
