Dragon's Dogma 2 won't have a manual save function

Dragon's Dogma 2 is Capcom's latest fantasy RPG, and it's been confirmed not to have any kind of manual save function.

If you're looking forward to the game like I am, you might be disappointed to learn the game will only let you have a single save slot. In addition, you won't get to reload to previous parts of the game if you want to try different things.

In Dragon's Dogma 2, you'll only have access to a single save slot. That means players will only be able to have one save on the go, and won't be able to create their own manual saves to go back to.

In addition, the game will auto-save at regular intervals, so you won't be able to make your own save point and go back to it to retry things in a different way. Your choices in the game will be final, and you won't get to play certain parts of the game again unless you do a whole new playthrough.

It also seems players may not even be able to make multiple characters and have multiple playthroughs on the go. You'll respawn back at a checkpoint if you die, but there's no way to reload and no way to create a new save without deleting your previous playthrough.

If you're on PC, you should be able to make manual saves by backing it up. However, this isn't a function supported within the game itself.

Console players will seemingly have to play on different accounts to have different playthroughs of the game. It's similar to the first game in this way, and it's pretty disappointing that Capcom hasn't changed the way saves work since then.

The game is apparently "tough", so players who want to reload and try different strategies will just have to hope their last checkpoint is good enough. But with auto-saves, we probably won't get to reload very far back in our playthroughs. I'm not sure this is the best way to approach a fantasy RPG in 2024, but Capcom seems to be following in the footsteps of Elden Ring.
