Learning about the best counters to beat the Hisuian Samurott Tera Raid is key to winning against this 7-Star boss in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Like Tera Raids of this level in the past, this Samurott boasts an almost-competitive level build and strategic AI behind it. This means you'll need the contenders in this guide to help you out if you want to catch one before it's over.

So, let's jump into how to beat the Hisuiain Samurott the Unrivaled Tera Raid boss in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet - covering the full builds and movesets of the best counters.

Best counter to beat Hisuian Samurott the Unrivaled Tera Raid

With resistance to all but one of Hisuian Samurott's damage-dealing moves, the exception being Sacred Sword, I'd say Brelloom is the best counter to beat the Unrivaled Tera Raid boss. By being a strong physical solo attacker with a build to nerf Samurott's strengths to boot, the Shroomish evolution is your deal choice.

The best Breloom build to beat the Hisuian Samurott Tera Raid is as follows:

  • Ability: Technician
  • Nature: Adamant
  • Tera Type: Grass
  • Hold Item: Shell Bell
  • EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Def, 4 HP
  • Moveset: Bullet Seed, Charm, Swords Dance, Worry Seed

Although the Grass and Fighting-type Breloom is resistant to Samurott's Dark and Water-type attacks, the boss' use of Swords Dance and its Sharpness ability to boost its damage still makes it rather dangerous. So, by first using Worry Seed to change its ability and Charm to nullify any Attack stat increases, you'll be free to boost your own with Swords Dance and hit hard with the Technician-boosted Bullet Seed.

Of course, any lost health you should have had to deal with up to this point will be at least partially recovered by the held Shell Bell - an essential to many 7-Star Tera Raid builds.

Other best Hisuian Samurott counters in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Meowscarada

The evolution of one of Scarlet & Violet's starter Pokemon, Meowscarada should be one of the easiest Hisuian Samurott counters to have ready for the Razor Shell Pokemon.

The best Meowscarada build and moveset is as follows:

  • Ability: Protean
  • Nature: Modest
  • Tera Type: Grass
  • Hold Item: Metronome
  • EVs: 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Def, 4 HP
  • Moveset: Chilling Water, Giga Drain, Nasty Plot, Worry Seed

Whilst Samurott's Bug-type X-Scissor attack may raise concern, this build quickly eliminates that with its Protean ability - changing Meowscarada's type to that of the move it's about to first use. Starting with Chilling Water not only lowers Samurott's Attack, but will change Meowscarada's type to Water to give it added resistance as well.

Every other move in this build is picked to counter the rest of the moves used by this Tera Raid Boss as well. Whilst Worry Seed will lessen the attack power of X-Scissor and Sacred Sword by changing its ability, Giga Drain - boosted by Nasty Plot and Metronome - will increase its damage and recovered HP with each use as well.

Wash Rotom

With resistant typing against Hisuian Samurott's Razor Shell, Wash Rotom also comes with capabilities that can nerf the 7-Star Raid Boss' moves whilst boosting its own.

The best Wash Rotom build and moveset is as follows:

  • Ability: Hydration
  • Nature: Modest
  • Tera Type: Electric
  • Hold Item: Shell Bell
  • EVs: 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Def, 4 HP
  • Moveset: Discharge, Nasty Plot, Reflect, Will-O-Wisp

Like Meowscarada, Wash Rotom can boost its Sp. Atk with Nasty Plot whilst lowering damage from Hisuian Samurott's attacks - this time with Will-O-Wisp and Reflect, which will also help defend your party.

As well as Discharge providing a heightened chance of paralysis where you and the team can get extra hits in, the held Shell Bell will come in extra handy to recover HP you might've lost up until now.

Miraidon

Pokemon Violet players who have completed the campaign will be relieved to hear that one of the best counters for Hisuian Samurott is already in their party. Miraidon not only comes with a natural type resistance, but also Legendary stats and a tanky moveset to slowly but surely take out the 7-Star Boss.

The best Miraidon build to against Hisuian Samurott is as follows:

  • Ability: Hadron Engine
  • Nature: Modest
  • Tera Type: Electric
  • Hold Item: Metronome
  • EVs: 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Def, 4 HP
  • Moveset: Electric Terrain, Metal Sound, Parabolic Charge, Reflect

Reflect is great for team support by boosting the whole Raid party's defence if you need it, but the main focus of this build is for bolstering Miraidon's attacks with Electric Terrain whilst de-buffing Hisuian Samurott's Sp. Def with Metal Sound.

Afterwards, consecutive uses of Parabolic Charge will be instrumental with its damage being increased with each use - thanks to the held Metronome - but the health recovered will increase as well.

Hisuian Samurott's weakness in Scarlet & Violet

Although it's a dual Water/Dark-type Pokemon, Hisuian Samurott has a Water Tera Type, meaning it has not just one weakness, but two: Electric and Grass-type attacks.

With X-Scissor in Samurott's moveset, though, I'd personally avoid using most Grass-type Pokemon to avoid any big super-effective hits that could cause faints and quickly drop your Tera Raid timer. That's unless you're using a build which nullifies that weakness - like with Meowscarada utilising its Protean ability.

When does the Hisuian Samurott Raid run until in Scarlet & Violet?

The Hisuian Samurott Tera Raid is taking place from Friday, December 1, 2023, at 00:00 UTC to Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 23:59 UTC. This was confirmed on the community blog post with details for the event.

Although Hisuian Samurott can be transferred from Pokemon Legends: Arceus via Pokemon HOME, beating this 7-Star Boss wielding the Mightiest Mark means you'll have a competitive-level build and moveset to add to your collection.

Plus, beating this Tera Raid also nets you a whole bunch of extra rewards like treasures, vitamins, and Tera Shards for your effort.

How to find Hisuian Samurott Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

You can quickly find Hisuian Samurott Tera Raids in Pokemon Scarlett & Violet by looking for the black crystals on the map, similar to 7-Star Raids of the past like the Typhlosion Tera Raid.

As Hisuian Samurott will have a Water Tera Type, all you need to do is look for the Water-type symbol on a shining black crystal on your map to spot the Raid's location.

Hisuian Samurott moveset in the 7-Star Tera Raid

In case you want to test any counters different from the list above, you'll also need to keep in mind the moveset this Tera Raid Boss will use:

  • Bulldoze
  • Ceaseless Edge
  • Focus Energy
  • Razor Shell
  • Sacred Sword
  • Swords Dance
  • X-Scissor

The most dangerous element in Hisuian Samurott's moveset is actually its ability, Sharpness. Boosting the power of slicing moves by 50%, Sharpness means that the 7-Star Samurott you'll be taking on in this Tera Raid will become even more of a powerhouse when using Razor Shell and X-Scissor.
