Whether or not Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will have an open world will be the first thing fans think of for any Avatar fan, as the world of Pandora and the way it appears in the films is vast and equally stunning - so exploring this rich world in the shoes of a Na'vi is an incredibly exciting proposition.

We know that the game is being developed by Ubisoft studio Massive Entertainment, and whenever we see a new Ubisoft game, the initial thought is likely going to be focused on the prospect of an open world, especially due to their many Assassin's Creed games. Massive Entertainment has also been responsible for The Division games, which have boasted open worlds of their own.

So let’s dive into whether or not Ubisoft's Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will feature an open world, or if we see the game opt for a more linear approach.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will feature an open world, which is fortunate considering the name of the game. Although this is an open-world game, it will be interesting to see just how open it is, as we can currently only dream of exploring the skies and oceans of Pandora without any restrictions.

From what we have seen in trailers so far, you can take to the skies flying on the Ikran to freely explore, and they will also be used in combat against military helicopters. We are still unsure of how much of the game's oceans will be explorable, but after the most recent Avatar film, it could feel like a missed opportunity if they aren’t.

So, that’s all there currently is to know about whether or not Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be open world when it launches later this year. As we head closer to launch, we'll update you here if any further announcements are made.

In the meantime, be sure to check out our Frontiers of Pandora page for all of the latest news on its release date and more.
