Xbox’s US Sales Beat PlayStation In June 2021
With the stock problems that plagued the likes of Microsoft and Sony during the pandemic still persisting until now, it’s hard to imagine them making big numbers from their consoles. The Xbox Series and PS5 are still incredibly tough for fans to get their hands on, and have become slightly mythical at this point. The next generation of gaming has begun, but they remain only just out of reach.
The PlayStation 5 is still performing incredibly well though, selling out almost instantly with every drop. It’s dominated the Xbox Series since launch - but it looks like the tide is turning.
Xbox Series X|S Sales Top PS5 In June
According to the NPD’s monthly sales report for June has offered a lot of insight into sales details of the month, once again confirming that the Nintendo Switch has toped the charts for home consoles. But, for the first time since the launch of the PlayStation 5, Sony’s powerhouse console has been beaten out by the sales of the Xbox Series family in dollar sales.
It’s thought that these numbers were a reaction to the Xbox | Bethesda E3 conference, which unveiled a lot of console exclusive titles and a great new roster of games that were set to come to the Xbox Game Pass.
What Was The Highest Selling Game Of June 2021?
In contrast to the great sales of the Xbox Series, the highest selling game of the month ws a PlayStation exclusive. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was the US’ highest selling game this month, more than doubling the sales of its predecessor, 2016’s Ratchet & Clank.
It’s followed closely by Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Mario Golf: Super Rush, the latter of which isn’t even including digital sales - so for all we know, overall sales could even be higher than the current frontrunner.
However, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is still the highest selling game of the year so far, and the latest Ratchet & Clank doesn’t even make the top ten, so there’s a strong chance that the shooter will get its time in the sun once again.
It’s been a big month for game and console sales - but who knows what these stats could look like if console production numbers were maximised. Maybe we’ll finally get to see what that looks like this time next year - but until then, we’re expecting PlayStation not to take this one lying down, and return to the top spot again soon.
