Most of us know how to care for our consoles, and safe to say, blowing in your old Nintendo 64 probably wasn't the idea. Now, Sony has been ripped apart after a deleted ad showing an upside-down PS5 has gone viral.

When it comes to the next generation of consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S have been duking it one to be the console champion. The PS5 might be massively outselling its biggest rival, however, there are sure to be some red-faced execs at Sony HQ with this latest blunder.

What is the upside-down PS5 ad?

Although the fact the advert has been deleted suggested it was never meant to be seen by the eyes of the world, Sony's blunder has been picked up and quickly circulated online. Posting on Twitter, the wholesome advert showed a dad doing his best Kratos impression and playing God of War. It was all very cute and looked like a delayed Father's Day promo, however, when fans noticed the PS5 is upside-down, Sony pulled the ad.

Thankfully, it has since re-emerged on Reddit and left fans and critics alike mocking Sony. The reason it's so funny is because Sony made a massive deal about how to store and set up your PS5.

When playing horizontally, the disc drive is supposed to be on the bottom. It's not that hard to remember, especially because it's the only flat surface on the console.

What have fans said about the upside-down PS5 ad?

Obviously, Xbox fans jumped on the blunder and took their chance to tear into Sony. Someone joked, "Backward Compatibility Confirmed", while another added, "It's just harkening back to the days of the OG PlayStation where the disc reader would start going bad and you'd have to turn it on its side or upside-down to get it to work". A third simply joked, "Well they're in Australia".

It turns out not everyone finds it that easy to set up their PS5. Someone else said, "Haha, my dad had his PS5 like that for the longest time, until I noticed and told him". Another concluded, "Oh yes upside down haha what an idiot... Runs to living room entertainment cabinet. I mean at first glance I also wanted the disc drive on top".

Although it doesn't seem like such a big deal, the latest upside-down drama follows in the footsteps of PlayStation Studios Head Herman Hulst doing the exact same thing in 2020. Hult's post was also taken down and later replaced with a shot that cropped out his upside-down PS5.

Even if Sony says there's only one official way your PS5 should be stored when horizontal, we think a company memo needs to go out to confirm exactly which way that is.
