Black Ops Cold War Is Getting A Huge Graphics Update
Black Ops Cold War is the best of its franchise in many departments. It finally nails the battle pass structure for the game, keeps up the tradition of great, well-balanced multiplayer maps and offers a campaign that (though many players don’t touch it) has a slither more political nuance and player choice injected into it. But, one thing we can say for certain, it has over any other entry in the series is its graphical fidelity.
It’s a good-looking game! Maybe it’s the departure from the muddiness of Warzone’s Verdansk that offers a little contrast, but Cold War plays with more colour than most Call of Duty games, and developers have clearly put a lot of effort into making sure that the pixel counts on the action set-pieces in the game are as maximised as they can be. But now, it looks like the game could be set to look even better.

Black Ops Cold War To Get Huge Graphics Update
It has been reported by PlayStationSize on Twitter that a ‘High-Resolution Pack’ is coming to the PlayStation 5 version of Black Ops Cold War for a few of its game modes. A graphical upgrade for the Multiplayer, Zombies, and Dead Ops Arcade modes will be coming to the game, yet there isn’t any word on if the Xbox Series X|S will be receiving similar buffs.
The announcement has confused fans for a multitude of reasons - to start with, the game looks great as it is. Twitter user FaKe_KLsk points out that the game’s 4K resolution paired with its 60hz refresh rate is more than enough to not even need a high-resolution upgrade at all.
Some fans are concerned about the pack’s storage, too. Dead Ops Arcade and Zombies’ packs come in at 3.7GB and 8GB respectively, but multiplayer’s high-resolution upgrade comes in at a whopping 17.7GB to download. Black Ops Cold War is already one of the largest games on the market in terms of storage, and these updates only make the game more cumbersome on players’ hard drives.
The game’s upgrades don’t yet have a release date, but there’s every chance that they could be coming as soon as the next patch. We’ll have to see just how much better the graphics on Cold War can get, but there’s every chance that for many, it won’t make a difference. The game already looks great, so we’ll see if the upgrades can make it even better.
