Do you remember all those campaigns about video game violence and why you shouldn't let your kids play a certain game? Admittedly, repeatedly pummelling prostitutes and hijacking cars might not be the best example to set, but does it really warrant Grand Theft Auto earning the Guinness World Record for "Most Controversial Video Game Series in History"?

If it's not the gratuitous violence, it's the foul-mouthed rants we've heard from the likes of Tommy Vercetti, CJ, and Trevor Philips. As a new generation of mums prepares to ban their kids from getting behind the wheel of GTA 6, you might be interested to know there's an even more gutter-mouthed game out there.

TV shows like The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, and The Wire (basically, anything on HBO) pump out the swears, but when it comes to video games, there are just as many that need their mouths washing out with soap. Given the rep GTA has earned over the years, you'd expect it to be filling up the coin jar, but apparently, Cyberpunk 2077 is the worst offender.

According to FandomSpot, CD Projekt Red's sci-fi shooter is head and shoulders above the rest of its X-rated counterparts. Studying IMDb's most popular 18+ video games, the site began the arduous task of documenting all the swears. This covers everything from the relatively tame "sh*t" to "motherf****r", and through to the C-word.

Cyberpunk 2077 has a whopping 722 swears, while its next closest competitor is GTA IV. We always knew Niko Bellic had a potty mouth, but not that the 2008 game would contain 691 swears. It should come as no surprise that GTA V takes third place thanks to the rants of Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. Still, we expected the trio to have clocked up more than 669 swears.

Leaving Los Santos behind for a very different kind of story, the brutal violence of The Last of Us Part 2 is also balanced by 523 swear words. Rounding off the Top 5, it's back to GTA with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas landing 501. Looking at the rest of the list, there are some odd additions like Detroit: Become Human (331) and Batman: Arkham City (26).

Knowing the legacy of Rockstar Games and GTA V being the most profitable entertainment product of all time, we doubt the developer will be happy a rival game as taken the title as "sweariest" game. We've already covered how GTA 6 can lean into a woke society to make itself more self-reverential than ever, so hopefully, it won't be showing its swears the door. Where else can you call an OAP a "b*tch" and not feel too guilty for doing it?
